Default Tigers-Fish Blockbuster Talks

I figure it is more interesting to see what other teams are up to at this point...

FOX Sports on MSN - MLB - Sources: Marlins, Tigers talking blockbuster

Quote:
The Marlins, stalled in their attempts to trade third baseman Miguel Cabrera, could be laying the groundwork for an even bigger deal.

The Marlins and Tigers are engaged in preliminary talks about a blockbuster that would send Cabrera and left-hander Dontrelle Willis to Detroit for a package of young players, according to major-league sources.

Outfielder Cameron Maybin and left-hander Andrew Miller likely are among the Marlins' targets. The Tigers already feature two veteran left-handed starters, Kenny Rogers and Nate Robertson, possibly making Miller available in a deal for Willis.

Cabrera would play third base for the Tigers. It is uncertain what would happen to the Tigers' incumbent third baseman, Brandon Inge, if a deal were completed; he possibly could be sent to another team.

Paging Omar to the front desk. This is the kind of deal the Mets should do. Get a great hitter and #2-#3 type pitcher. I would open the farm on this deal.

If the Mets get Cabrera and sign Silva and Livan, they could offset their salaries by selling PPV rights to sumo matches after the game. Winner gets full access to the clubhouse buffet.

The Mets don't have 1 prospect like Miller or Maybin let alone 2+ of them to get both those guys.

LOL anyone who thinks this deal is real needs to have their heads examined. Why would Marlins package them together when they could get more by trading them separately?????

Marlins are just trying to get more from Angels in Cabrera deal and Willis is not even on the market. Mets asked about Willis and were told he is not available.

From Metsblog:

Earlier today, at FoxSports.com, Ken Rosenthal wrote that the Tigers and Marlins are in ‘preliminary talks’ about a deal that could send Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to Detroit for a package of young players, such as OF Cameron Maybin and LHP Andrew Miller.

However, in a post to his blog for the Booth Newspapers in Detroit, Danny Knobler believes the Marlins are simply using the Tigers to force the Angels into upping their offer for Cabrera.

…this makes sense…i mean, certainly the Marlins could get the most talent by splitting up cabrera and willis in to separate deals…plus, the word from miami continues to be that the Marlins will only trade willis if they are blown away with an offer, so coupling him to cabrera makes even less sense…

I don't know how much the Marlins can get for Willis alone, his trade value is so low they may be better off packing him with Cabrera to sweeten the prospects they could get, rather than trading him for some midlevel prospects.

In this market I don't think Willis' value is all that low. A 26-year-old lefty just two years removed from a 22 win season?

To get Willis right now I think it would take the packages that are supposedly not good enough to get the big three. I also think that's nuts but I really think it would take something close to one of those.

I've never really understood why teams and fans have such a complex over being "used?" Unless you bite and pay way too much then who really cares? I guess it's a stupid pride thing...

MLB.com is reporting that the Tigers are set to acquire Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis from the Marlins for Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller and four more prospects.

Rick Porcello is going to be awfully lonely as the only member of Detroit's farm system next year. If true, this puts the Tigers right back among the elite in the AL and further swings the balance of power between the leagues. Detroit will have to hope to find a taker for Brandon Inge, who is owed $18 million over the next three years.

Wow, Kenny Rogers makes Miller expendable? In who's eyes, Jim Leyland's? I know he's like 80, but talk about win now. Nate Robertson doesn't exactly do it for me either. The Tigers have traded away a ton of pitching in the last couple of years...

I guess you missed the part about Dontrelle Willis being in the deal.

I missed the part where Dontrelle Willis hasn't sucked since 2005, and the part where he won't cost about $40 million more than Miller over the next three years. You'd better hope that Cabrera starts eating his Wheaties like people say he is with the amount of money you're taking on for these two....
