This is getting bad. The one thing we can't do is give up the farm for a bad player. I'm not bending over for Joe Blanton or Cliff Lee.

You and I can say that... Omar, who's just dealt promising youth for veteran veteraniness in an awful "win now" trade, will probably feel like he has no choice but to follow through on the rest of a "win now" offseason, even if it means making more horrendous deals.

Two weeks ago Peter Gammons on ESPN regarding Johan Santana...

"Don't count out the Mets. They have promising prospects and Omar Minaya is open to deals."

To be fair, it sounds like Gammons is reporting on what the A's think, not what he thinks.

To be fair, wouldn't Gammons reporting always be based on an informed opinoin of what teams think, not what he thinks?

In an ideal (non-ESPN) world, yeah. But it often seems like his job and many of his colleague's jobs are to be pundit and reporter rolled into one.

The A's are asking for the same haul as the Twins are for Santana, and supposedly the Red Sox may make the same offer for Haren...

Which is why Beane is even bothering. He knows Haren is no where near Santana, but he's hoping some team who can't get Santana will overpay for his guy just because he had a career season and they dont want to be left in the dark

Welp, since everyone doesnt want our players, I guess its ok for Omar now to go and dump them all for a AAA fringe bench player, of course instead of just playing out own guys
