| Pirates look to move Nady, one way or another I wouldn't advocate a trade because anyone else dealt better be for pitching but if the Pirates non-tender him, not a bad deal. He can be signed for around 3 mil at most, a perfect platoon for those concerned with Church against lefties, either he or Church can man left when Alou takes his inevitable trip(s) to the DL, allows Chavez to stay on the bench and allows Gomez to stay in AAA. Thoughts? |

| Doesn't Nady also have experiennce at first base? He could rotate and get plenty of at bats... that is of course if Willie does not do the veteran thing and never sit Delgado no matter how much of a black hole he becomes. On edit - Saw your post. Agree.

| I don't regret him being shipped away but I would be in favor of him returning to the Mets. I remember him coming up big for the Mets many times in the first half of '06. Would make for a good inevitably necessary insurance plan for Alou/platoon with Church. Assuming Church doesn't get flipped in a deal for a pitcher. Which I doubt because A) Gomez would probably be the trade bait and B) Articles make it look more and more like the Mets don't even have a shot at Haren/Bedard let alone Santana, so why do I have the feeling the nightmare prophecy of Silva/Livan will come to fruition?

Of course, how many OFers do the Mets want to carry? Signing Nady basically means Endy is a sixth outfielder, which essentially means that his time with the team would be over. And Endy, though I have just about zero faith in his bat, brings something to the table nobody else on the bench does - speed and gold glove OF defense. He's a great fifth OFer. In the end, my gut says Nady goes somewhere he gets a chance to play everyday.

Bringing Nady back, IMO, makes a hell of a ton of sense for the Mets. Perfect platoon partner with Church/occasionally give Little Boy Bored a break/can sub for Alou when he ultimately winds up on the DL/under contract through 2009, so he can still platoon with Church and be a veteran backup for Gomez in '09. The benefit is that it will give Gomez all the time and ABs in the world in AAA to get ready. Most of all, the guy WANTED to be here. I remember how bummed out he was after he was traded, and rightfully so.

| Another benefit: Acquiring Nady back means either he or Church could be flipped in any deal for a pitcher... On edit: If so, I'd flip Church and keep Nady for balance against lefties and the experience of having played in NY and as Dave points out, wanting to be here. |

| I'm also on board with the Mets pursuing Nady. He would be useful as the other half of a right field platoon and as the guy who fills the Conine/Franco role of righty bat who plays the corners. Omar better not give up Gomez for him, but it doesn't sound like he'll cost much to acquire.
