Default NY Mets' Only Hope....

If Santana negates trades to Boston and the Yankees and the Mets are Plan C........

Sadly, the Yankees are his top choice, or so it's been mentioned a few times. Besides, the Yankees are offering Hughes, so it's about as good as done unless the Sox offer Buchholz.

Or if they trade for Haren.

Or if they trade for Bedard.

Or if they trade for a pitcher nobody thinks is available yet.

Or if Humber/Pelfrey/anyone develops.

Or if they sign a low risk high reward guy and he pitches to his potential.

Or if Pedro is back to Pedro.

Or if.....

Not getting Santana doesn't mean the end. I understand this post was just to start ****, but there are a lot of negative nancy's here that honestly think Santana is the only way a team that underachieved with Glavine as their best pitcher and missed the playoffs by one game can win. Teams with Santana have won zero championships to date.

True. Which is why it's best to save the farm/$ and get a guy that comes to a more complete team and can still solve a problem. I am not dying for Johan and never was, for that reason. He costs way too damn much.

A team that can steal Aj Burnett or Sheets might get more out of the deal over time, ironically (not terribly likely, but anything is possible in this game).

I just wish the Yankees are forced to lose Tabata along with Hughes. I am hoping...

It happened to me the other day with something you said on the baseball forum. I went and took a shower after. Three times.

Seriously, I think the way the Mets season ended has turned many Mets fans into cry babies. They sound like skanks fans.

I was also curious as to when Lastings Milledge turned into Willie Mays

Which fans are crybabies? The ones who plunk down $ to see their team arrogantly award themselves champagne they never won/tasted?

The fans who knew to trade Milledge last year or to just keep LoDuca if he took 2 years instead of Schnieder and his $10m over 2 years?

The fans who want to win? Or the fans who feel it's worth pursuing a top starter instead of middling garbage that will command over $8m/year?

I don't know if there are that many crybabies. I know more people cried about Milledge being a thug, pedo or terrible player. But I didn't realize we were swimming with 22 year old stars. I remember Reyes was struggling at 22 and many others will after him.

Do we have to be thankful that Wilpon wanted to expedite this kid out of town instead of helping him grow as a man/player? Should I be thankful he wanted Kazmir out as well?

Should we be happy that we refused to go the Red Sox/Tigers way of over-paying for TOP end talent in the draft instead of one middling head case starter or mediocre reliever after another?

Should we be happy that Ryan Church has more experience as a platoon player or that our catcher is making 4x as much as Castro and his worse than him and is likely going to get worse?

Should we be happy that we have not one prospect who can slug higher and post a higher obp than old knees mcgee (Aka Castillo) ?

Should we be happy that we have an owner who really did his bust to stunt this team's development a few years ago? Or should we be happy that our 2 best pitching prospects won't entice any teams, at all, ever.

I think sometimes criticism is warranted. Esp. when it can be backed up. While I agree a few fans ask for too much and I hate the Yankee-Esque "Give me this star, now" routine, I would say the media is worse than the average intelligent Met Fan. The only fan we should really care about.

People who actually know who is in our farm or who is in the draft when it's draft day. Not the low iq 'I wanna star' drooling idiots or 'omar/fred is always right' parrots.

How about the fans that whine and cry about not being able to trade away what little talent the Mets have in their farm system for one player because other teams have more chips?

How about the fans that are crying about not making a splash when there are no FA's in areas of need worth a crap?

How about the fans that cry every time there is a move that isn't a "Superstar"?

How about the fans that whine if a prospect is traded, but then whine if one is held onto until he shows that he isn't going to pan out?

How about the fans that think anytime someone in the media says that something could happen involving a trade, it is accurate and it only didn't happen because of Omar not being able to market players? I mean Les Miles is already the coach of Michigan.... oh wait.

How about the fans that want to trade ALL the depth the team has, essentially making it so that if any injuries occur, the team is screwed anyway, to nab one player who plays every 5 days?

The list goes on and on.

There are a lot of other teams out there that can't even consider attempting to get Santana. It doesn't mean that their GM's are worthless. They work with what they know and have. It is a crapshoot and a risk in ANY player transaction. There are people that come out of nowhere all the time and turn teams around. New people become the "names" that people want.

Go ahead and cry about the team not having everyone that you want on it. Just remember that there are a lot of extraneous variables involved that need to be considered. Every fan wants their team to win. Every GM wants to make the team the best he can with the resources he has. ESPN analysts and their ilk know jack crap about the inner workings of these deals other than opinons they hear through the grapevine.

In the meantime, have some patience and see what happens. People here act like the offseason is already over and every player on the Mets roster is doomed to fail.
