Default Minaya Sets His Sights Re-Arming The Mets

Although the Mets freefall in September was a total team effort, general manager Omar Minaya realizes that the pitching staff was the main culprit in the historical collapse. From the starting rotation to the bullpen, no one was exempt from fault. Especially in a pitcher’s park like Shea Stadium (and its eventual replacement, Citi Field), [...]

It'd be nice if Omar would forget about his hardon for Colon, Silva and fatso Livan and think about Sheets or Capuano from the Brewers.

That's better than keeping those three until they're only worth spare parts.

It's time for Omar to stop dreaming about the old, washed-up pieces of garbage; thinking he can dump them on us. I'd be happy if we'd just go with Pedro, Maine, Perez, Pelfrey, Humber and be done with it. Might as well see what Pelfrey and Humber can do, being that no other club seems too impressed with them based on their performance last season. I'm sure they're no better and no worse than some other highly-touted prospects on other clubs.

BTW, that's what happens when you trade a Brian Bannister and your old starters break down. You're forced to start your prospects before they're ready. No mystery to them now.

Don't count on it - the first three are athletes while the latter two are not.

I completely agree. I'm tired of everyone yelling about the starting rotation and how we need an Ace. Sure they could use an Ace, who couldn't? But I am perfectly fine with Pedro, Duque, Perez, Maine, Pelfrumber. Omar needs to concentrate on rebuilding the bullpen. Look at the 2006 rotation... they won because pitchers only had to go 5 innings until the pen took over and shut the other team down. If you can back this rotation with a solid, reliable bullpen, then they'll be just fine.

And can Omar please stop shopping Gomez? Milledge is already gone, I'd liketo atleast see an outfield of Gomez, Beltran, and Martinez somewhere down the line.

If he can get a big time pitcher for a package including Gomez you have to do it. Gomez is a punch and judy hitter no need to wail about the possibilty of him being moved.

Oh yea, if he can get an ace for Gomez, you gotta do it. I just don't want him traded in a panic move for some middle of the rotation guy.
