Default Will the Mets sign Carlos Silva?

I'd bet he'd win 14,15 games in the Mets rotation (move to the NL, better defense with Reyes at SS).

If the price is right, I'd like to see this guy at the back end of the rotation.

It's already started.

The pollyanas, KNOWING that this is shaping up into a crappy winter, are trying to convince themselves that no matter WHAT Wilpon and Minaya do will be just peachykeen.

Krunchy Frogg, Mushy Brain (I kid, I kid)

I hope not, because that would mean we miss out on Livan. Jesus ****, the Yankees have endless stud prospects and are going to get Santana while securing the best player of our lifetime, maybe. And we're likely going to get this **** in a can.

What ****ing planet am I on?

I think he's a good fit for the back end of the rotation. What's the big deal?

He's an innings eater who is over .500 for his career. They could do a whole lot worse.

Why pay $30+m, which he'd want, for a guy to be not much better than Pelfrey (all things =) over a full year? We have Pedro/Maine/Perez/Duque. We should use Mulvey/Humber/Pelfrey to compete for #5. If 2 of them do well enough, we save a ton of money (Silva is also very over-rated and always gets shelled by the Yankes when I watch him, so I really always disliked him and his soft toss **** arsenal) and maybe can hurry up the move we need to make yesterday; sending El Ducktape to the pen.

No more mediocrity. If we throw it out there, let it be a prospect who costs peanuts. Not a guy who is the size of an animal that eat peanuts.

Silva looks way bigger than a chipmunk to me.

Sounds like the second coming of Steve Trachsel.

Okay, maybe that's a bit strong. But personally I would rather see the Mets finally commit to the pitchers they have than overpriced, 500 record free agents. If they can work a trade for a front-of-the-rotation guy, great. I just don't see it happening.

If that's the case, go with the kids - especially at the backend of the rotation. It saves payroll, which makes the roster that much more flexible if someone becomes available during the year.

I don't see it happening either. I'd say go with the kids, or sign one or two low risk guys to one year, incentive-laden deals (ie Garcia, see if you can make a small trade for Prior, a great project for Dr. Rick). Maybe shore up the bullpen with one more solid arm (Dotel?) El Duque could be the swing guy, making starts and coming out of the pen.

What I fear is Omar REALLY screwing the pooch, and out of desperation, give slobs like Livan and Silva ridiculous deals....
