Default Milledge Trade Isn?t So Bad

Looking around the different message board; listening to talk radio and such, it seems like Met fans tend to hate the Lastings Milledge for Ryan Church and Brian Schneider deal. I don’t understand why. Milledge, for all his potential, put up a number of red flags over the past two seasons. First, he rubbed teammates the wrong [...]

Joe,

this right here:

Quote:
Milledge, for all his potential, put up a number of red flags over the past two seasons. First, he rubbed teammates the wrong way with his me-first attitude. Then after having a great spring last season, the 22 year-old went on the disabled list for half the season and when he came back was good, but not great. And let’s not forget the rap album and angering opposing players, which made him a target at the plate.
IS NOT a reason to trade someone.

1 - his rookie season issues were put to bed.

2 - his rap VERSE (not album) is much ado about nothing as usual. That should have absolutely NOTHING to do with a trade

3 - Please name for me all the GREAT 22 year olds in the big leauges. (Cricket... cricket) Thank you.

And finally, whoop dee doo, he pissed off the Marlins. So did Jose Reyes, and Carlos Gomez, and eveyone else on the Mets.

What stupid reasoning for shipping a guy off.

What irked me about Milledge were his skills in the OF which were not what I expected them to be. If he was supposed to be a CF, I would imagine he shouldn't be taking bad routes to balls no matter what corner OF position he's put into. He made some dazzling plays - but a lot of times to make up for taking a bad route.

I'm still going to wait and see.

P.S. To play Devil's Advocate Hojo, if all those reasons are "stupid", WHY no one else really wanted the guy with all the potential? It's STUPID to you and me, but compared to GMs...

I can't believe people are saying "Who cares that we got an overpaid POS catcher that NOBODY EVER wanted and a guy who, at best, is a .275 hitter with no real speed/impact talent...Milledge was a bad guy"

So is Delmon Young. He's not Delmon Young good, but NOBODY would congratulate the Yankees if they made this trade. We'd all **** on them. Atlanta too.

But since the Mets cannot do wrong for some, it's all about his attitude. Hey, you know what? There are a lot of players who rub their teammates the wrong way. It doesn't mean you get 2 guys that NOBODY would EVER trade a talented 22 year old prospect for.

Name ONE team that makes that trade. One...Absolute sellout to support this. And brainless. It's bad baseball. You BUILD value, NOT give up and assassinate the character of a player. There is a reason why winning teams do NOT make these trades nor turn their prospects (Kazmir/Milledge) into pariahs.

What a shame that you don't see that. You trade to UPGRADE or you work to build value. Not piss 'em away for the SAKE of doing so. That's proof that this team has NO clue. And wait til you see who Philly is close to landing...I pray it's not true.

And can one person PROVE he's a worse person than

Young
Guillen
Bradley

Please? What proof is there? What, David Wright is a saint? YOu don't think he'd walk home with your girlfriend if they met while you are in the bathroom? C'mon. These are athletes. They are all arrogant ****s at some point. Grow up. Stop supporting this owner who invents reasons to **** this team over.

First it's Kazmir's fault. Then Leiters. Then Milledges. Then Duquette's. It's never his. This is the team that conditioned fans to be thankful we traded Kazmir. Not falling for this **** again.

Or you know, writers who never liked the "arrogant kid" have foolish reasons for liking the trade.

I still get a kick out of everyone mentioning Milledge's "ALBUM". Can someone find a copy for me. I didn't realize 8 bars in a song made him Snoop Dogg

Excellent post. Agreed on all points. Once again, you have a case of why other GM's do not take the Mets seriously. Jack of all trades, master of none.

The Nats have supposedly just acquired Elijah Dukes as well. He and Milledge will be in the same OF! Great faith in Manny Acta they have...
