Default Twins want Hughes in Santana trade

SI.com - MLB - Jon Heyman: Twins want Yanks' Hughes for Santana - Friday November 30, 2007 4:10PM

Quote:
Yankees people are debating now whether to give in to Minnesota's demands that Phil Hughes be included in trade talks involving Johan Santana. If the Yankees ultimately surrender Hughes, league sources indicate they have a decent chance to complete a trade for baseball's best pitcher.

no shocker...ian kennedy isnt going to bring the best pitcher in baseball to your team. if you are using prospects to get him, it will have to be your teams top prospect.

being a mets fan is like driving around a 92 ford escort that breaks down all the time while you watch your next-door neighbor lease a new beamer every year.

When Philip Hughes was drafted, we had Al Goldis, the super scout, talk about the importance of drafting a college pitcher. Because HS pitchers are a bigger risk

Our pitcher of choice for the #3 pick? Philip Humber.

That's My Mets!

EVERY draft scout that year had Humber in the top 5 players in the draft.

And if you don't feel that HS pitchers are a bigger risk then college one's you really know nothing about he draft and how prospects have been developing over the last decade +.

Next you'll be talking about how smart the Yanks were for drafting Chamberlain and/or Kennedy out of college.

Learn to laugh. And no, I didn't want Humber. A lot of us actually preferred Baily.

And yes, I do know the risk factor of HS Kids. But that is the same with College Pitchers. How are Wood, Humber, Neiman, Paul Wilson looking? It happens with any pitcher.

The point is the scouts demanded a college player and wanted Kazmir gone. They are dolts. You have to also see the humor in how what works for them usually blows up in our face. C'mon, it IS kind of funny that our fate is to have a bust while they have Hughes. Learn to lighten the **** up. I know enough about baseball and have probably predicted more stars and turkeys than you have for all I know.

Deep breaths. Laugh a little. We have enough smug bitter angry pills here.

Omar say the Mets still have chips to trade but I wonder if he is referring to Major League Chips not prospects.

Would an offer of Maine, Heilman and Church or Gomez get the Twins attention. Is that offer close to what the Yankees are offering?

Is Melky Cabrera that much greater a prospect over Gomez?

Do that trade and sign Dotel to replace Heilman. Still have to get a 5th starter but at least the Mets would have their ace.....

Your right. I should laugh more, especially since you and most of your posts are a joke.

I'm not sure who you mean by Wood since if you're talking about KERRY WOOD you'd be wrong claiming he was drafted out of college.

Minnesota "could get Melky and Hughes in July" before the trade deadline, said the person, referring to the Twins' belief that unless overwhelmed, they could keep Santana and deal him midseason if not in contention

NJ.com: Everything Jersey

Also, according to the Post, the Twins told the Yanks that they would deal Santana if Hughes not involved. The Yanks offered Hughes, the Twins went back to the Sox and asked for Buckholz but the Sox said no. Twins then went back to Yanks and said Hughes & Melky not enough.

-----------

If this is true, the Twins are being greedy.

How the hell are they being greedy? They have the best pitcher in the game and they have every right to try and get as much as they possibly can for him. Not every team has to bend over to the Yanks. Hughes is good, but Melky is nothing special and there are a million OF with his capabilities.

EXACTLY !!!! Oh..how KIND of the $kanks to BITE THE BULLET and FINALLY CAVE in AND OFFER Hughes..for a pitcher of Johan...it should have been DEMANDED and UDERSTOOD to start..

I still don't get the facination with Melky.. an ok 4th of IMO..not gonna be much better then Church..he was so protected in that $knak ALL-STAR LINEUP..of course he was gonna produce somewhat..I would Imagine Milledge(if allowed) would have put up good #s as a $kank as well..

I'm still ANNOYED that Twins don't seemingly want Cano...how the hell are you afraid to go for CAno due to $$ when you are trading Johan away who was MAKING good $$$ even w/o extension....MAKES NO SENSE..

If I were a Twins fan.. I would want my team to get Cano+kennedy+minor leaguer or even better Cano+hughes straight UP....
