But I thought we had 2 pitching prospects better than Buchholz, who the Twins want. So, I mean, why isn't this deal done? That's so very odd.

The Red sox are probably pulling a bait and switch.

They dont need a trade partner. Zambrano is a free agent.

The most disturbing thing about this article is Minaya's backpeddling to the 2003 meaningful game mets. "The goal is to win 85 to 95 games to be competitive and this will most likely get you into the playoffs. " I thought the goal was to Win the World Series, not to be "competitive". Memo to Omar: 88 Wins was not good enough last year - it was also not good enough in 1997 and 1998.

This is going to be a long season, where Randolph will end up getting fired and Minaya will be given a shorter leash.

Wait a minute?!?

The immortal Carlos Gomez is not enough to land Santana?

I think youre taking the quote out of context. 85-95 wins yearly as a long term goal is not mediocrity by any stretch and typically is good enough to win the division and get you into the playoffs. That is the goal of any team and sound strategy.

What a long winter this is shaping up for any fool (like myself) who has rooting interests in the Mets, Jets, and Knicks...

That works as long as the GM puts the talent on the field that can accomplish just that. I'm beginning to have serious doubts that this team, as currently constructed, can do that...

I've been a Mets fan since 1981... I should be used to the rhetoric and BS this organization seems to love feeding its fans. The Mets will draw well next season, being Shea's last season and all... and they will sell out every home game at Citi Field for at least 2-3 years. I ask where is the incentive for ownership and Omar to make a 100 percent commitment to putting a championship product on the field?

And this has nothing to do with Santana... sometimes there are things that may be unrealistic. That said, this organization does not have a real plan. It's more of "throw it at the wall and see if sticks", or "it's so crazy it may just work" line of thinking that will always fall short.

Maybe I've just grown tired of feeling beat up by this organization, with the occasional 1-2 year bone tossed at me to keep me happy.... I'm not looking for a WS every season... but how about, for once, a solid 10-12 year run of success, a couple of WS rings thrown into that mix, some playoff appearances, overall excellent showing? Where WINNING becomes the standard, the norm, something we KNOW, rather than waiting for some miracle, or having to believe....

For f*cking once, I'd like to see that.

Bay, where do you see Omar and the Wilpons not committed to the building that teams? The "solid 10-12 year run" isn't going to suddenly appear. I can be as negative, but you have to give it time.

When Omar took the job he talked about building this team to become a dynasty. Well, it is going into Year 4, and now he's talking about being "competitive".... It's like he took a Delgado pill...

I could care less about the Yankees, but it will bother me if/when they get Santana, if only because I fear what Omar's counter will be. If we are lucky, maybe it's Haren, or Bedard, maybe Kazmir falls on Omar's lap... but c'mon, these are pipe dreams.

Thats exactly right. He's been worn down by the Wilpons and his own lack of ability.

I think you guys are on to something with how Minaya's quotes have been tempered. It does trouble me a bit, too. But I CANT give up on this club now, not on November 30. Lets see what takes place. Im fine with no Santana. But that Haren deal should be a no-brainer. If it falls though and we wind up with Livan, we know we have trouble.

And Dave....I agree with you a billion %. JUST ONCE in my lifetime, Id like to see this club have a nice, long run in them. And not an all-time dynasty type of thing. Just be GOOD for more than a year or two at a time.

What Haren deal? All I have heard is speculation.

On the bright side, if nothing happens than we have all of these young players still. But now they REALLY have to come through (Pelfrey especially).

Thats all, huh?

At least you didnt demand they rape the wifes of the other team, pillage the snack bars and then burn the opposing stadiums to the ground, too.
