Default WATP (You knew it was coming)

Mets trade: Milledge, Mulvey, Carp for Athletics: Haren
Would seem like a no brainer for both teams, if the Atheltics are looking to trade Haren. Athletics receive three players who can contribute right away.

Mets trade: Humber, Heilman for Nationals: Cordero
Humber was nearly dealt to Washington at the deadline. Throw in Heilman to sweeten the package

Mets trade: Pelfrey for Marlins: Willis
Willis is too costly for the Marlins, in addition to coming off his worst season. Pelfrey has the potential to be a top of the rotation candidate for the Marlins.

1.Haren
2.Willis
3.Martinez
4.Perez
5.Maine

6.Wagner
7.Cordero
8.Feliciano
9.Sanchez
10.Hernandez
11.Schoeneweiss
12.Sosa

The Mets improve their rotation and the bullpen.

No way I trade Carp

The McGimpy does most things upside down: eats, sleeps (an average of 23 hours per day), mates, and gives birth. Because of the McGimpy's upside down life, many of the McGimpy's internal organs (liver, stomach, spleen, pancreas) are in different positions from other mammals. McGimpy sometimes lets out a cry or hissing sound.

During the rare times the McGimpy goes down to the ground (such as to change trees for food), it moves very slowly.

Carp is a stud. If the Mets trade him they need to get back more then Haren. I'd only even consider dealing him if it was in a deal for Santana, Oswalt or Sabathia

Is this a not so subtle attempt at humor? Is Carp even a top 15 prospect?

Carp's a question mark because of the hand thing. He's also useless against lefties and has to improve on that. Right now I would rank Nick Evans ahead of him, and I'm not sure how they're going to work assignments next year. Carp should probably start at AA, but Evans is ready to start the season there as well...

Lucas Duda is another intriguing 1B prospect, but he's a good bit away. I wouldn't be surprised if they skipped him to Saint Lucie next year though. He mashed in his brief time in the Hawaii Winter League, and that's pretty much the level of competition out there...

My favorite past time - Hilton bashing.

So basically we're trading one 8th inning guy for another and giving up our best left handed pitching prospect as well?

I'm not exactly Erin's biggest fan, but trading her and Humber for Cordero just isn't worth it, especially since you'll have a new feelings who wants to close games. I'd rather save Humber for some bigger fish.

You'll need to throw in another name here. Dontrelle's stock may have fallen, but the Marlins aren't going to give him up for just one prospect.

Willis has fallen so much I wouldnt even do Pelfrey for him. Let go of the Willis dream will you, not only that you slot him into #2 in the rotation ahead of Pedro? You lost all credibility on that alone

The Mets improve their rotation and the bullpen.
If OAK is gonna' go into full rebuild mode then lets get really way out...

Package Milledge, Mulvey, Heilman, Delgado($16mm) and Dan Murphy to the A's for Haren ($4m, $5.5m, $10.75m), Mark Kotsay($8m) and Eric Chavez($11m, $11m, $12m). This is a payroll dump.

Beane and OAK could get rid of $62.25m in payroll while taking back only $16m. If Beane really is that high on Heilman then he has his extra SP. Delgado gives him a "big" bat in the lineup at DH. Milledge & Mulvey both project out well. Murphy (3B) is a Billy Beane kind of guy; walks a lot and doesn't strike out that much with power.

If Eric Chavez (30) is willing to play 1B he could reduce the wear an tare on his body and 6 Gold Gloves over there won't hurt either. Kotsay give the Mets a LH bat, some speed and a great defender in RF. Haren is the top of the rotation guy they need now.

Then package Humber and Joe Smith (the sweetener) to WAS for Chad Cordero.

Last, package Pelfrey, Estrada and Gomez for Erik Bedard and Ramon Hernandez ($7.5M, $8M, $8.5M). Partial payroll dump.

Rotation
1.Martinez ( Pedro is still Pedro)
2.Bedard
3.Haren
4.Perez
5.Maine

Bullpen
6.Wagner
7.Cordero
8.Feliciano
9.Sosa
10.Hernandez
11.Schoeneweiss
back up by Sanchez, Willie Collazo, Steve Schmoll

Line up
Reyes, ss
Castillo, 2b
Wright, 3b
Beltran, cf
Chavez, 1b
Alou, lf
Kotsay, rf
Hernandez, C

Bench
Anderson,of/inf, Easley,inf, Chavez,of, Castro,c, Gotay,inf, Ben Johnson, of
backed up by Fernando Tatis, Anderson Hernandez.

Three 1st round draft picks in 2008 won't hurt either.

These WATP's get worse and worse as the off season goes along.

If we're not going to try on the WATPs, we shouldn't try on bashing them...

Not enough for Haren. Carp is nothing. Beane wants teams to ignore his 2nd half and previous seasons and treat him as an Ace...when in reality Haren is a nice #2 who will net someone 15 wins and a era in the high 3s.

Great so they're going to trade Heilman, who right now is better than Cordero, and then toss in one of the Mets top pitching prospects for a bonus. Sounds about what the Nats would ask for, but the Mets would be stupid to pay it.

How is Willis too costly for the Marlins when their payroll is all of like 20 mil and they get 30 mil from MLB? Here's the issue, they arent in a panic spot to trade Willis (or Cabrera)...YET....a year or two from now it may be different, but they can afford to keep both now. So that means in order to snag Dontrelle they are going to want teams to look past Willis' sucktitude in 07 and treat him close to the same way teams are treating Haren (who is also not an Ace).

Otherwise they might as well just keep him and let him have a bounce back year. Chances are he doesnt pitch to a 5+ era again.
