Default Schilling is Interested In The Mets

From His Blog:

http://38pitches.com/2007/10/30/free-agency-weird/
The list of teams that our family has talked over, that we think would be a fit for next year, should we not come back, are pretty much teams in cities we agree would be ok for our last year, and teams I think have a legitimate shot at being in the post season and/or World Series. Teams we didn’t include aren’t for any one reason. There are a million little things that go into this from stadiums to school districts to travel to spring training to etc. etc. etc. but the list represents the teams after Boston that have some of the off the field things that are big to us, plus the potential to go into October next year.

Cleveland, Detroit, Anaheim, New York Mets, Philadelphia, Atlanta, L.A., S.D., Arizona, Chicago Cubs, St. Louis, Milwaukee.

He's actually LOOKING for a one year deal. I'd take him in a heartbeat. He's a gamer, but even in his potentially last season ever, he could really do some special things for us during the post-season stretch. He's a stopper and while he may have a big mouth, he puts EVERYTHING he has out there on the mound when he pitches.

We'd still have to look at acquiring another FA pitcher and shore up the bullpen, but Schilling would definitely be a great #2 starter.

The biggest issue with him has been his health. Hopefully the National League can make him a better pitcher for just one more season, and he can do for the Mets what he did for the Sox in 2004 and 2007.

Schilling should not be relied on to be a no. 2 starter. He'll probably miss as much time as El Duque.

ONE YEAR deal... I would take him too..

You gotta beleive Phil will go hard after him though.. BIG GAME in POST SEASON GLAVINE VS Schilling.. NO COMP.

Think Schilling would have SPIT THE BIT like Glave did against Marlins??!!!

Agreed.

But a one year deal (+ option perhaps) so he can be the #4 starter, and bring additional post season and winning pedigree to the rotation.... you could do worse (Livan, Bartolo, and Esteban Trachselez, better known as Carlos Silva)....

As I said in the other thread... as long as he doesn't represent "mission accomplished" for the Mets, and as long as he and Pedro don't tear the clubhouse apart, I would have no problem with it. I think there's more of a chance of him getting through a full season starting than there is for Duque.

Exactly. We ALL know that the idea will be to replace Glavine with another "proven vet"... If that is the route they choose, Schilling is the best fit.

Schilling is not the same pitcher of old but he would be significant upgrade over Glavine. 9W-8L, ERA under 4, pitching in the toughest division in baseball. It would make sense but it would also make sense for the darkhorse Philly.

This move would probably upgrade the bullpen at the same time, as Duque would surely end up being there...

I think Duque *has* to end up in the bullpen regardless of what happens. If the Mets allow one of his injuries to help derail yet another season, they are beyond stupid and deserve what they get.

I would support this, but I don't think that he's leaving Boston.

No no no. Schilling is a blowhard and a primadonna and Pedro and Schill don't really like each other all that much.
