| How about Don Mattingly for first base coach. He's the most popular living ex Yankee next to Yogi, and it would be a hell of a way to stick it to the Yanks...............We owe them. He has just told the Yanks that he will not accept ANY position with them, since he didn't get the managing job. I'm sure he's a good friend with Willie. I think it would be a great idea. |

| I'd rather they sign him to be the 1B man, nevermind coach.

| How about Mattingly actually goes down to minor leagues and actually starts to manage before expecting to automatically get a job in the bigs? If I were him, and if Torre does not take the LA job that would allow him to remain as Torre's bench coach, I would be asking the Yankees for the opportunity to manage Staten Island, Charlestown, or Tampa. |

Oh wait Or even SAINT GILBERT RAYMOND HODGES! And don't give me "Yabut he managed in Washington..." that was still a MAJOR LEAGUE FRANCHISE. Hodges never spent a day in the minors since being called up for good by the Dodgers back in the late 40s! | |

| Hell Hodges wasn't even a COACH anywhere, like Torre he just started managing. Traded for Jimmie Piersall in 1963 and then traded back to the Mets for Bill Denhey before the 1968 season. So can we get rid of the notion that Willie Randolph actually was elitst and full of himself in never going down to the minors to cut his teeth. |
