Default Georgie Coupons?

How tight can you squeeze the pennies? From today'sNYDN:

Exclusive: While George Steinbrenner spent huge sums on player salaries, Yankee management routinely docked the paychecks of Joe Torre and his athletes for the most picayune expenses.

Poor Delgado could not afford the exotic jewels he wanted to decorate his car bombs with. He had to settle for cubic zirconias.

A-Rod was charged $785 for a room upgrade and $375 for room service, which included four in-room movies.

lol. sadly a $785 for a room upgrade is easily paid for 30 times when Arod just shows up to the park and takes batting practice.

im with the team on this too. although most company's do pay for employee business travel (which technically away games are) however they would never pay up for the luxuries that many players (like Arod) would require just to sleep comfortably. Normal people (like me) would be lucky to stay at a $59 per night bed and breakfast 3 mins from the office I was visiting.

The team is under no obligation to pay for all these extras. Screw the players and their big money. If they want extras, they can pay for them.

The article doesn't mention whether or not the players fought these deductions. I suspect they didn't care and knew they had to pay extra. So this article is probably trying to make something out of nothing.

It is. I'm sure just about every baseball team back charges it's players for incidentals.

I'm kind of surprised that, these being pro athletes, they don't try to get the hotels to comp them for everything anyway.

Totally agreed. As most all of these guys are making more than we will ever make, who cares if they have to pay a few hundred dollars, for bigger suites, fancy food, and porn. With all the money ML teams are paying the players, why should they have to pay even more for all of the other nonsense. I am quite certain that most teams would charge the players back for that stuff anyway.

Talk about making a mountain out of molehill.... jeez.
