Reads like a nice sentiment, but I refuse to feel sorry for any of the Mets. He went back to California after four days. The rest of us are stuck here getting abuse because we're Mets fans. And we didn't get millions of dollars for our grief.

We let everyone down -- the fans, the staff, people who would have profited from our being in it. ... You feel so good as a player when you make people happy. We thought we were going to, we were going to bring people so much joy. We made people happy last year, just getting in for the first time in a long time. They expected more this year, so did we.

So hes supposed to give up his money, live in a NYC shelter filled with Yankee fans?

THAT is what would make you happy?

YOUR employer fails in some way, even through fault of your own, are YOU giving back your salary?

Jeez.

You're getting abused because you are a Met fan? Your a fan of a baseball team and they didn't win...it's not like your house got blown away in a storm man.

Whether or not you feel sorry for the players, what he said about the "peripheral people"--vendors, clubhouse people, parking lot attendants, ushers, et al--is something nice to hear from a player who could just take his millions and cry about himself.

Quote:
His professional pride wounded, Green is most uncomfortable with a more personal aspect. He finds the collateral damage particularly troubling. The people peripherally involved with the Mets, those who had expected to be occupied -- that is, employed -- this month when the team pushed toward the World Series, are on his thoughts.

"A lot of people were counting on us," Green says. "Some of them might have been ;b]counting on making some extra money[/b]. They feel bad about what happened to us, and we feel bad about what happened to them because we didn't get in."

I'm not going to feel sorry for any of them, but Shawn Green was one of the few guys who did his job down the stretch and he still feels badly, so in that regards it does suck because he shouldn't feel bad. He did exactly what he was supposed to.

What he said about all of the other "little people" was refreshing to hear from a millionaire, but I don't know if I can take any remorse from a baseball player seriously.

I give Greenie credit. Say what you will about his production, which at times was putrid, at others, stellar, but he goes about his business in a professional manner and his words I took as very sincere.

Dude - where did you get this from? I just said I'm not feeling sorry for multi-millionaires.

man, does anyone get a pass here? if there were two players on this team i felt bad for it was alou and green. alou came here to play for a contender and did nothing but produce. green is an aging star who doesnt have that much left and produced down the stretch. also, green did whatever the team asked from him with no complaints whatsoeever, just wanted what was best for the team. a lot of former allstars like him would have had an issue getting benched for somebody like milledge, he just took it and kept playin.

get on glavine and company all you want but give me a break with green...guy was a class act

I agree, except that he's not "old" by today's standards. I was very surprised to read that he will be 35 next month. And if he wants to come back here as a part-timer in RF and at 1B, I'd take him.
