Default More from Delcos on '08. Castillo, Glavine, others

Minaya said he would try to retain Castillo, and assuming it is a multi-year deal, it would fill the black hole that has been second base under manager Willie Randolph's three-year tenure.

Glavine's status uncertain: The Mets have not spoken with Tom Glavine since their conversation several days after the season finale.

A week ago yesterday, Glavine declined his $13 million player option.

The club is still interested in bringing him back.
I'm not surprised re: Castillo, but I am re: Glavine.

If they bring him back, they're insane.

I will admit, that looking at his overall season, Glavine is solid (innings wise) IF he's looked upon as part of the end of the rotation. However, that last game left such a bad taste in my mouth IDK if I'd accept him returning in any capacity. And his inflating BAA really makes me nervous.

If they let Glavine walk, they need to replace him with a guy who can win 13 games and give you 200 IP. Not an easy task (and I'm not sure Glavine can do that next year).

Exactly. The question is, can he do it again next year, or were his last few starts the fuel tank finally hitting 'E'?

Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the first-place New York Mets.

Well, tied for first place in the NL East with the Phillies at 52-44. But with a 10-game winning streak, and with the way the Mets rallied for a 10-8 win over the Reds last night, it seems like only a matter of time before the Mets leave the rest of the division in the rearview mirror.
You ****ing knew it after reading that.

Bringing Glavine back should not be Plan A, but one scenario in which the Mets have to at least consider bringing him back is if Glavine decides that he would only consider pitching for the Mets or for Atlanta and Atlanta decides they don't want him, leaving the Mets as the only bidders, and maybe the Mets can sign him for a really cheap price, like $5 mil guaranteed for one year plus incentives. With the passage of time since Game 162, I have to admit that there's worse options than having Glavine at the end of the rotation.

You know I've laid low on the Omar debates because despite it all I mostly support the guy, but if he honestly thinks this is a reasonable option after what just happened...

Besides Omar, what GM would really want to give a .350 slugging bad knee 30+ 2bagger a multi-year deal? This has bust written all over it. I can't possibly be alone in this thought, can I? This is a disaster...but no surprise. I can't find one Met fan who didn't expect to read this :/

And the fact that they want Tom Glavine shows you how 'deep' our pitching prospects are and how pathetic/desperate we are. What a joke.

I dont think so, I think it just shows how terrible the free agent class is. I dont want Glavine back in the least but if they do retain him, 4 slots are filled in the rotaton, 1 slot goes to pelfrey possibly, and maybe we use Humber in the MR role since its a glaring hole right now
