Default Jason Bay

What do you think about the mets trading for Jason Bay?

The article says the mets should try to get him and give up Carlos Gomez and Mike Pelfrey to do it.

Personally I like Gomez, I'd rather put Milledge in the trade if possible. And I am ready to see the last of Mr Pelfrey (0-8). Mouthpiece and all.

What do you think?

I would explore what they would want. I would have no problem giving up Gomez, as I have been thoroughly unimpressed with him. I would much rather hang on to Milledge who showed me something this year and I think could develop into a pretty good player. Gomez, on the other hand, I think would be a great pinch runner.

During the rare times the McGimpy goes down to the ground (such as to change trees for food), it moves very slowly.

it's easy to find a corner OFer. the mets' prospects should be earmarked for finding pitching.

Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the first-place New York Mets.

Well, tied for first place in the NL East with the Phillies at 52-44. But with a 10-game winning streak, and with the way the Mets rallied for a 10-8 win over the Reds last night, it seems like only a matter of time before the Mets leave the rest of the division in the rearview mirror.
You ****ing knew it after reading that.

Agreed. Trading for Bay is not the best use of resources.

Bay is breaking down too at 28. He said so himself during the year.

Technically, 3-8.

I like Bay, but I think Gomez and Pelfrey show a lot of promise.

The Mets would be better off with Alou's option for LF and keeping their prospects.

I could be horribly wrong, but I think it's worth being patient with Pelfrey.

I agree. How many growing pains did the Rockies and D'backs have to go through with their young players to get where they are?

Yeah he sucked through the year, but he showed improvement later in the season, and the game he pitched against the Braves after the first Philly debacle showed, to me, that he's got "it" in there somewhere. If he can net some GOOD major league talent as part of a deal then buh-bye, but I'm hoping the Mets don't trade him willy nilly for spare parts like some here would like to see.

I say unless he's used in a package to trade for a no brainer pitcher, then just keep him. No use in subtracting from your pool of pitching talent, unless it's to trade for a pitcher that's worth trading for.

Pitching is the scarcest commodity in baseball, ergo the most valuable. He's had very little time (relatively speaking) in pro ball so to judge him on a poor showing so soon as the template for his career is very hasty IMO. The teams that have decent pitching are those that stockpiled their higher pitching talent, even when they faltered taking the longer view on things. It's funny that this board is lamenting the trades of Bell and Ring who did pretty much squat in the bigs over a period of years (and the mofo wanting them gone) yet almost everyone wants to dump Pelfrey - a started no less - a soon as possible.

Stockpile unless good proven major league pitching is available, or a good young bat is available then you trade a package for either. I appreciate that you need to give up a lot to get genuine talent, and at this point Pelfrey isn't worth a huge amount after this season, but I see little point in trading him off for complimentary parts.

His funk is good at home, and even better on the road. My gut says, trade for him now. Whatever it takes.
