Default No confidence in 2008

The following is a byproduct of the 2007 collapse:

Even if the Mets manage to come out in the first part of 2008 with a big lead in the division, NO ONE is going to have confidence that the team is going to hold on to that lead. Even the optimists here in the MoFo will be somewhat skeptical. This should lead to some interesting debate here in the coming year.

whatever happens happens. how confident we feel or don't feel won't change a thing.

Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the first-place New York Mets.

Well, tied for first place in the NL East with the Phillies at 52-44. But with a 10-game winning streak, and with the way the Mets rallied for a 10-8 win over the Reds last night, it seems like only a matter of time before the Mets leave the rest of the division in the rearview mirror.
You ****ing knew it after reading that.

Nobody will have confidence that we or anyone can ever beat the Braves as well, because they always find a way to win in the end...

Honestly, 2006 already taught me to never assume any result. 2007 just further emphasized it. It's best to just watch and see what happens.

As 15-Day said, its more about how it happens than anything. The Yankees have the worst record going into the AL playoffs, but based on how things played out was there ever any doubt in the last month that they were going to not only get there, but likely be the favorite to get out of it?

From the end of May on the Mets played like a team only partially interested and eventually got to not caring at all. I mean even the 05 Mets who has a Sept collapse at least you can say that was a team that played its butt off and just ran out of gas.

The 07 Mets were like hybrid vehicles, but when they ran out of gas someone forgot to install the batteries.

Don't count on that.

"Interesting debate"? Not likely. An onslaught of whining and complaining every time the Mets show a chink in their armor? Yeah...that we'll get.

Oh, you can assume plenty. Just don't assume anything GOOD is going to happen.

Remind me to introduce you to Rey-YES aka Bill Metsiac sometime.

I don't think the end of 2007 has any bearing on 2008 in terms of optimism/skepticism.

I think their level of play night in and night out during '08 will show us, not what happened in Sept. '07.

This is exactly why the MOFO is only going to get better from here.

Their level of play will likely be a roller coaster, and it may derail before the passengers can get off.

Perhaps Six Flags can name their next supercoaster after the Mets.
