I said it then, and I'll say it now. Four of these guys look significantly happier than the other two. Was the photographer telling jokes in spanish? I'm serious.

when Omar got here. he was hired to fix a mess.....and he did that. My thought is that last off season, Omar didn't think there' was anything to fix....just a little tinkering with the pen and the same team that made to game seven of the NLCS would be back....(Sanchez disappearing hurt alot more than anhyone ever could have imaginedmgut tell)....Now, Omar has to fix a mess again....lets see how he does this off season before we write him off. He fixed the team once, what's to say he can't do it again........

.if anybody gets the boot this off season its gotta be Petersen....Seriously, for all his "accolades, what's he done...Oliver Perez is pretty much the same up and down guy he always was.....Maine had a good half season...Pelfey hasn't shown anything and theguy obviously didn't help the bullpen. His "contact" approach, IMO, is what led to the trading of the young guys who could throw 96 mph....which in releif is what I would think you need....a suucession of high 80s guys, as this season has shown, just ain't gonna get it done.

as far as the everyday line uop...
Reyes:...as much as I hate to say it, you almost have to give him one more year.

Castillo: worth the risk for a two year deasl...might shine hitting behind a resurgent Reyes..

Wright I was way wrong about this guiy...he's a bona fide superstar with NO CEILNG

Beltran...smooth, solid

Alou...if he has one more half year in him, he's gotta stay

DelGado...his last year,,,,just gotta hope he comes back

Rightfield....Jason Bay form Pittsburgh to move from kleft to right?

Catcher...damned If I know

Pedro:....final season....GLAD TO HAVE HIM

#2......gotta get somebody move Millidege/Gomez/FMart/Heilman...but its goitta happen

Maine:....not my favorite , but what ya gonna do

Perez.....Can't be considered as anything but a 4 until (if he straightens out)

#5....somebody has to step up in the spring Humber/Pelfry/????

...MOTA, Sele, GOODBYE...Hernadez pickups the Darren Oliver 2006 role..Schoiweweiss and Feleciano..lefty specialists,, Smith...too young to give up on, Sosa is workable HOPE for a return of 2006 Duaner Sanchez, but pick up another "HEAT" thrower....DON'T want to see Heilman ever throw another pitch for the mets giver him a shot at the #5 starter or trade him.....try to limit the use of Wagner early in the season

I don't see how it's even a question to stick it out with reyes... he basically had wright's 2006, only more extreme.

If duque comes back he's gonna start, which is why he can't come back. he's been awesome this year, but it's pretty clear he's NEVER gonna be there when the mets need him most.

I'm fairly confident that none of what's happened happens if he doesn't go down. And that's not an excuse, because if you depend on Duque you deserve what you get.

Big difference, NO ONE questioned whether or not David Wright seemed to care after his post HR derby funk. No one was questioning his heart and determination to win every game or saw a difference in his play from the first half of 2006 to the second half of 2006. It was just seen as a funk, and something was wrong with the mechanics of his swing. Not a complete change in his demeanor and attitude on the field.

Not saying I'm in the "get rid of Reyes" camp, I'm just saying the two situations aren't comparable.

I want Willie to stay, but I want Peterson out.

Reyes:...as much as I hate to say it, you almost have to give him one more year.

Agreed

Castillo: worth the risk for a two year deasl...might shine hitting behind a resurgent Reyes..

One year deal and no option. Now if he wants to so something about that knee this winter, then I would reconsider a multi-year deal.

Wright I was way wrong about this guiy...he's a bona fide superstar with NO CEILNG

Wright is a future 1B, IMO, but he is definite keeper.

Beltran...smooth, solid

Agreed

Alou...if he has one more half year in him, he's gotta stay

Agreed. We also know that he will get hurt, but that will give kids like Gomez a chance to play and be mentored by Moises.

DelGado...his last year,,,,just gotta hope he comes back

16 million. Ugh. I don't want him back, but we're stuck with him.

Rightfield....Jason Bay form Pittsburgh to move from kleft to right?

Depends on what they want to with Milledge. At this point, if Milledge can be packaged for an ace, I'd do it.

Catcher...damned If I know

He annoys me, but bring back Duke, and find a lefty swinging backup. That said, I fear OMar is going to throw big $$$ at I-Rod.

Willie had control of this team last year. They played like a team. They acted like a team in public. With the exception of the Feliciano comments, of course. Now... Willie's no tactical genious, but whatever he worked to build within that clubhouse has been undermined.

Uh huh. You wanna know what people were thinking of when Captain Photoshoot was lost in the second half last year and April this year?

Of course the two situations are comparable. They're both young players who were put on a pedestal and have had to learn how to deal with not living up to expectations. Wright's STILL learning - witness how he turned the bat handle into sawdust every time MVP talk came up the last few weeks. Reyes needs to take the leap David did this year.

I am not convinced that anything has been undermined, I think this team definitely thought too much of themselves, and I think that a really bad omen was not getting caught in say July or August. They kept stumbling and then getting fortunate, stumbling and then getting fortunate.

Whatever players do come back, and it will likely be anyone who currently has a contract, they will have a long winter of golf to realize that in a 162 game season, while you will certainly have lapses, you can't play with a lack of killer instinct.

and btw...Wright is not even a firstbasemen, he is a freaking DH, he is a retard in the field.

Great hitter, genuinely good kid, dumb as a box of rocks with a glove and ball in his hands.

Enough is enough with this ****. You wonder why the MEts are never consistent? At the first speed bump, the fan base cues the ownership to make a 180 every time. First Bobby V, then Philips, then Howe, now Willie and Omar.

You guys claim patience, and I see SC is bringin up Jacobs again, who btw would have been run out of town with his season, but none of you have the sack for it. You guys can say goodbye to any good prospect, since apparently, you guys can't handle the growing pains of good ones like Reyes, Maine, and Perez. Might as well just get rid of Fmart, Milledge, Humber, Pelf this off-season for the "missing pieces". For years I saw this place cry for young talent, now it comes up short... and now you guys want mercenaries...

At this point, I'm content in letting this team learn from their mistakes. I don't expect Willie or Omar to make the same BP mistakes next year. Omar will try to get the best talent he can, NO MATTER THE RACE, I expect Reyes to come back much more focused. I expect Maine to have the stamina for a whole season next year, I expect Pedro to be around most of the season, I expect Beltran to take games in July just as serious as he takes games in September. I hope Delgado gets back to what he can be. (Especially if he finally figured out to go the other way)

Sure we can use a few pieces, but this is what we all said we wanted. A change here or there is fine (I'm looking at you, Vag, Hebrew Hammer, & Mota), but wholesale changes after two seasons of 87+ wins? That's when you tinker to find the right recipe. Last year worked, this year didn't... next year with a different bullpen, we could ****in win it all. Who knows? But I can tell you that blowing it all up is not the way to go.

Friend, don't generalize. You know my take on this.

The kids can stay, unless Santana or Oswalt become available (even you would have to consider it). Pitching, pitching, pitching. That is what the offseason SHOULD be about. If the reports are true about the Braves wanting Glavine back, they can have him. Time to move on.

I want Willie to stay. ALL the blame should not be placed on him.

I want Peterson (because I do NOT want a pitching staff of 88 MPH throwing young Trachsels) and most of the old farts and/or assorted crap, outta here.

thats pretty much what I said.....although Perez and Reyes should be well past "growing" pains and "Pelf( I assume you mean Pelfry) hasn't shown anything and packaged with Gomez and Heilman might bring back something solid...........Petersen HAS TO GO!!!!!!

this offseason, not being able to close a deal that needs to happen is no longer an excuse.

personally I'd love to see him try to buy low on dontrelle.
Believe me, virtually nothing of substance will be done in the off-season.

I'd take Dontrell, but wouldn't give up much for him because--with his delivery-- chance are he will blow out his arm once he puts on a Mets uniform.

IMO, a player doesn;t realize his true potential until around 28-29. Reyes, Perez a little bit, and definitely Maine got too fat off their first halves this year.

I think when Maine said he wasn't focused after the ASB was a tell-tale sign of that.

I agree with losing Peterson. I've never liked the idea of preaching "pitch to contact". That only works for certain pitchers. Here's a thought, how about letting the guys who have to use that strategy use that strategy, but figuring out which pitchers can get guys to swing and miss?
