This is right up there with Nemos insistence that the Mets fortunes were somehow tied to the level of attention paid to the game during an IGT.

Mark I respect you, but you still insist that Duquette was a scapegoat. You have an axe to grind, that makes this all very suspect.

Willie is not a man without failure, neither is Omar, neither is Rick Peterson, but I suppose that we are STILL to believe to this day that Duquette was a humble victim of circumstance.
As far as Kazmir he was...I have never defended him on any other signing / trade he made...did I like him? Yes, as unlike many occupants of the current FO (not Omar, he's a class act) he wasn't a self-important tool. He also signed KKKameron, Kaz Matsui and dealt for Kris Benson.

This sniffs of trying to feed off negative vibes to drive web traffic. Don't be that guy, that is what ALL THE MAINSTREAM NEW YORK press is about.
Hey, man, I was at the game last and that was what struck me the most. Don't talk to me about the mainstream media, who were all kissing the Mets' fannies after the Schoeweneiss signing.

As for posting it here, I haven't written in awhile and wanted to share it over here. I think some people here enjoy hearing my persepctive, and some don't. I enjoy the debate.

McReynolds left everything on the field always, he did not betray his talent or his future, all he had was the mindset that life does not hinge on baseball alone.
As a player I liked him, especially in 1987 and 88, but he was a symbol of the passionless Mets teams that followed the '86 championship.

You shot first, 84, with the "incomprehensible" comment. Sapre me.

Thanks for taking the time to edit the piece for me though,

I don't get to a lot of games, living in San Diego. I made my annual trip this week and went to Monday and Thursday's games. The crowd was plenty energized on Monday, even though 5 Nationals runs in two innings turned a 1-0 game into a 1-5 worrier. Still the stadium was rockin' in the bottom of the sixth with bases loaded, one run in and Reyes up. Two groundouts got another run in, and the Nats answered with 2, 0, 3 and 3 runs while the Mets had two hits and a sac fly by Beltran in the 9th.

How exactly should any fans react to this?

Likewise Thursday's crowd desperately wanted to see the Mets win. People who call a crowd pathetic while the team didn't have a lick of offense are looking in the wrong direction. When you get down by three runs and can't even get a man to second base, hey, that's a pathetic performance by the Mets, not the fans.

Incomprehensible was kind. It was one of the stupidest pieces of sh*t I've ever read, and tonight proved it. I lost count of the standing ovations after about 63. Fat lot of f*cking good that did, huh?

The McGimpy does most things upside down: eats, sleeps (an average of 23 hours per day), mates, and gives birth. Because of the McGimpy's upside down life, many of the McGimpy's internal organs (liver, stomach, spleen, pancreas) are in different positions from other mammals. McGimpy sometimes lets out a cry or hissing sound.

During the rare times the McGimpy goes down to the ground (such as to change trees for food), it moves very slowly.

I shot first? Why don't you go back and look at who started the thread (and why).

You wanna roll with the big boys, maybe you can learn to take some criticism. I'm happy to provide more if you're game.

Ironically, Character has been the best reliever down the stretch.

Spot on article, Mark. Home crowd is only into it when they are WINNING. Main reason why the Metsies hold the BEST ROAD RECORD IN THE MAJORS. I've seen more passionate positive Mets fans at road stadiums.

Just take down Shea already...it's cursed. We'll get swept out this weekend by the 2 last place teams...and it will be Shea's fault

Shea Stadium is a lousy starting pitcher, and ever worse reliever.

F*cking Shea... hitting 3 batters in one inning.

Get this piece of crap Shea off my team NOW!!!

Credit is due. He has pitched fairly well.

I'd say he'll be back next season, if only because he as two more years on his deal, and no one else is going to want him. Hopefully, he will get his knee fixed over the winter + clean slate = better pitcher in 2008....

And hopefully the Mets are in a position to use him as a left-handed specialist.

If not, nothing will have changed.

Privately, the Mets believe they scored enough runs last season (799, tied for second in the NL with the Phillies). Unless they can pull off an unlikely trade of Luis Castillo and add free agent Orlando Hudson to play second base, the likely move is to add a backup infielder such as Alex Cora.
799 runs is enough. Don't score a run more.

Ollie was not pretty last night, but Wright FU(KED him over big time. That was the bone head play to end all bone head plays.

Last year I was wishing people would stop saying 10 years with him and Reyes just because I am sick of looking ahead with the Mets when there has never been a now. The thought of him and Reyes next to each other for Ten years now feels very Metesque.

It happened later on, but Reyes should have come up with Cabrera's 2 run single...

I just got back from today's game, and I can tell you (if it wasn't already evident on TV) that the crowd was into it from the beginning. Before Maine threw pitch #1, people were up cheering, and chanting the "LGM".

Maine said in the interview afterwards that the fans got the team pumped up.

Maybe it was because 50,000 fans read this thread or the Gotham article and took it to heart.

Or maybe they just felt like cheering anyway.
