Default OK, the Phils had their 'sniff'...

...of first place. Great. Hope they enjoyed it.

As unlikely as it seems right now, the Mets can still plow thru this weekend, and make it academic if the Phillies lose but one game.

Say what you will, but the Phillies are the ones with the legacy of futility, more so than our Mets.

Here's to the next three games and what they may bring, and against the current flow, I am hoping it is a divisional championship.

Dude, it's over. They might win ONE game this weekend...there's no way the Phillies are losing 2/3.

They won't even make it to a one-game playoff.

on edit: I hope you're right...but I just don't see it. I'm one of the most optimistic fans here, and I just don't see it.

The Phillies have way more disappointment in the history of their franchise then we do. Let's hope when the weekend is over, it will be just 1 more massive disappointment for the Phillies.

If somehow that could happen.... some of the past 10 days pain could be forgiven. The big problem is, even if we get to the playoffs, we probably cant get very far with this team of losers. It's never easy for the Mets.

Matt....I am really inclined to agree. I am just trying not to get swallowed up by my own disappointment, anger, and sadness about this whole situation. I am usually not a rah rah poster at all.

In fact I have NPG leanings sometimes although not nearly as reactionary or negative...

What's the sense in being a fan if you can't root for your team til the bitter end?

Well...yeah. But this is what the Cardinal fans were undoubtedly saying last year at this time.

Oh, I'll be rooting til they're eliminated...don't get me wrong. I just don't have any faith at this point.

At least I've already got plans for tonight so I don't have to worry about watching the game. Of course I'll still be checking on my cell phone every five seconds because I love the torment, but whatever...

LOL...dude...I feel for all of us. It is a horrible place to be in as a fan.

I know perspective is called for in these cases, but it rarely eases the pain.

Sadly I have no such plans so I will sit back with a 6 of Corona and should they lose again, at least it will be easier to fall sleep.

What kills me the most about last night is how they wasted an absolutely outstanding effort by Pedro...he gave them EXACTLY what they needed, and probably more than anyone could have expected, and they STILL couldn't get it done. Seven innings, 2 ER from a guy making his fifth start since coming back from rotator cuff surgery? Can you possibly ask for more than that? Hell, if Castillo turns that DP in the first inning, who knows...he might've even gone 8 or 9 since that botched grounder cost him about 15 extra pitches in the first.

It's like they're still finding new ways to lose every time out...

Anyway, I'll be right there with you re: the Corona. I'm getting sh!tfaced if they go down tonight...at least I'll forget about it for a little while.

What Matt said. I have tickets for Sunday. Forget about brooms, bring shovels to help throw dirt on the grave. Even if G-d drops everything else and they somehow qualify for the post season, they are going NOWHERE with this bag of sh*t bullpen.
