Default Carlos and Moises

When is Delgadosama coming back?

I guess Moises better come back next year...He's by far our best hitter.

Kinda weird that Alou never seems to seriously consider going to the AL to DH. With his hitting skills obviously still intact, one would think he'd like to prolong his career by reducing the wear and tear on his legs.

Delcos:

So far, so good, Carlos Delgado is saying about taking live BP. The hope is he’ll be able to play this weekend at Florida.

Of course Moises doesn't have enough ABs to qualify for the title, but right now his BA is higher (.344) that the NL leader, Halliday's .338. And it'd rank 3rd in the AL.

How can you NOT want him back?

No questioning his productivity but, if I was Omar, I'd certainly have reservations about bringing back a guy who has such difficulty staying on the field.

This **** cracks me up. The entire Mofo was calling for Omar's head over the Alou signing in July when Moises was on the DL.

Everyone?

I thought the point was that Omar had to go out and get another OF because Alou being injury prone made him unreliable.

I don't think anyone questioned Alou's ability.

I seem to recall the term bust being thrown out there quite a bit.

Everyone knew that Alou could hit when healthy. The only question was whether he could stay on the field or not. I'd say he stayed on the field about as mush as I expected this year.

I'm confident that Alou could .300 at the age of 60. He can hit anything. You could shoot a golf ball out of a cannon and he'd hit it. Bring him back, but come prepared with four solid outfielders. The injury to Alou early in the year wouldn't have sucked so much if it wasn't for the injuries to Milledge, Chavez, and Gomez.

I wish he would have learned to play first base at some point. We could ship out Delgado and sign an outfielder or give the LF job to Gomez.

Agreed on all counts. He was a gamble, with even Minaya saying he accepted that he would be injured at some point I believe, but that he had plenty of OF depth - which he did. That was a rash of OF injuries that nobody could predict or prepare for.

I'd bring Alou back, but in the mindset that he'll only play half the games one way or another and have plenty of depth again. He changes the lineup in a big way.

I don't think it matters if we want Alou back. From Metsblog:

According to Jon Heyman, at SI.com, Moises Alou has been telling teammates that he expects to retire after this season.
Alou has played in just 60 percent of games over the last three seasons, during which he is batting .316 while averaging one home run every 20 at-bats.

I wouldn't keep him with the expectation that he'd play every day. But even with all the time he's missed this season, he's been arguably one of our most valuable players. Keeping him would allow Gomez to get playing time without the pressure of a full-time role. As Gomez shows enough to play regularly, Alou's time can be reduced.
