Default I was kind of afraid to log on here tonight.

Sheesh. That was brutal. I think it would have been less painful if they'd just gone quietly in the ninth. Nothing like capping off a pathetic collapse with a tension filled, blown comeback attempt.

Yep. We're (the posters, that is) at each other's throats, too.

I'm pretty sure that not even the pessimists expected this. It's pretty bad.

And the pollyannas have disappeared as fast as the Mets division lead.

I mainly blame Blowtran for the 9th. He came up empty again in a big spot. He set the table with a horrid AB, and struck out on Ball 4. Had he accepted the walk that was GIVEN to him, we would have at least tied the game.

Of course, the way things are going right now, the Nats would have won it in the bottom of the 9th anyway, so I suppose the loss was inevitable.

What's sad is that I feel tonight's loss is also inevitable with Pelfrey on the mound and the parade of losers that is the Mets bullpen.

It is amazing that Shawn Green is playing with more life than guys like Reyes. Green who has looked shot since late May all of a sudden has come to life. The guy is hitting monster homers and starting a rally while even Wright has come up small in big spots lately.

Who knows...the way things are going, maybe Pelf will come up big and the Mets will 'salvage' a game from the Nats.

I can't believe I am saying that either.

The list of folks to blame is about a mile long, but when you get right down to it, the Mets gave Maine a 4 run lead and he sucked.

I fully expect them to lose tonight, but I have a feeling so will the Phils. If I had to guess, in the following 2 series after tonight I'm expecting the lead to be back up to 3+ games.

he's playing like Olerud since they moved him to 1st.

The McGimpy does most things upside down: eats, sleeps (an average of 23 hours per day), mates, and gives birth. Because of the McGimpy's upside down life, many of the McGimpy's internal organs (liver, stomach, spleen, pancreas) are in different positions from other mammals. McGimpy sometimes lets out a cry or hissing sound.

During the rare times the McGimpy goes down to the ground (such as to change trees for food), it moves very slowly.

When is Beltran going to come up big in a tension filled gotta have a hit at-bat????

I know he is a good outfielder and power hitter, but come on!! A walk, a single, no! Throw him a curve or change and he'll swing right through it!

It is getting ridiculous.

Well he did hit that unexpected 3-run homer to tie the game the other day before the Mets handed the game right back to the Phils.

Who'd have thought that I am more excited about going to my daughter's back-to school-night as opposed to watching the Mets play?

And I really hate school.

It was a pipe dream, one to which most of you clung ffor ar too long, the dream that this team was going to do anything. After a torrid start, it all came crashing back to the truth.........the rotation, which stsrted out over its head, wilted by June. Maine, Perez just don't have the talent. Galvine and Hernandez just too old and Flotsam/Jetsom who made up #5 were, well #5s (and not even good number fives)....the bullpen, dear god, some were worried, but not even the most negative among us thought it would be this bad. The leadoff hitter is an overated clown, 2nd base was and is a problem, the 3rd baseman is the only bright spot, Beltarn continued to prove that he is a 280 hitter who turned one great palyoff run into a lottery jackpot....green and Alou did any of you really expect different? Delgado turning 50 right before our eyes was a surprise. LoDuca ws burnt out by mothers day.

The team was flawed, badly flawed, from the beginning and rather than bitching about a collapse, we should all be thankful for a a season where it was mostly done with mirrors, and be happy that it took till mid-september to realize that hey, the Emporer really is naked.

You gonna come back here and apologize and say how wrong you were when they start winning again?

I really can't wait for that because I KNOW it's going to happen.
