Default Guys, I need your help!

I work a block & 1/2 from the George Washington Bridge.

Somebody please convince me not to walk over there on my lunch hour & throw myself off.

If saying it is just a baseball game is not convincing enough, I fear you should at least buy a life preserver in the event that you live through the fall but lose consciousness.

Did you pay your last insurance premium ? Does your policy cover suicide ? This is what the MOFO needs to know before you take that walk. Good luck

Back in June when the Mets were busy getting their asses kicked by the Dodgers and BOTH Philly and the Braves were within 2 games....the season was over.

It happened again in July, the Phils got within 1.5....the season was done.

Just a few weeks ago all the bridge jumpers were out after a sweep in philly and a doomsday trip to face the Braves....the season was over.

The funniest part was, I asked then after the lead had built back up to 5 games, if folks would panic the next time the Phils came in and rolled over the team ..... Hell even NPG said "I though they were a different team this year. I guess not."

Yet here we are again...the Mets playing like crap...the Phils on fire once more....and the sky has fallen again.

The Mets are absolutely brutal to watch right now, no doubt about it that this has been one of the more painful .500+ teams to watch in recent history, but everytime any team has gotten close, the Mets, who were generally playing like complete crap from top to bottom all of a sudden turned things on. At this point, I still dont see why this time should be any different than the other 1/2 dozen times.

What, you aren't happy to see the Yankees post a better record, comeback story, 3 new phenom pitchers and a roider who didn't get suspended but helps them win games every few days?

That and the idea of the rotation being 2 old men with Maine/Perez and the worst pen in the playoffs?

Be happy. Life is good. Remember, there's always porn. You don't get porn in heaven. And it's all gay porn in hell. So be careful, young lad.

You have to at least acknowledge the possibility that they actually blow it. And when you do that, you have to then come to the stark realization that this team has had to try awfully hard to even make a game of this thing for anyone else. A team with this payroll and experience, and purported load of talent in this particular division, should have had it all but wrapped up by now with a bow on it. That this is even a discussion is a testament to the bizarrely empty nature of this team.

2006 was a huge leap forward, and in some ways extremely fortunate. There was no guarantee that 2007 was going to represent another step forward, but they should have been building on the success of 2006 if not in number and tangible results, then in spirit.

And again, one doesn't have to look too closely to know that whatever was right with this team, as we all saw our mini-little-few-year-let's-open-Citi-Field-with-a-bang dynasty being built before our eyes, is just not there. And the fact that there is no obvious reason why, is what is so god damn disconcerting. To people like me.

Plus you have to stick around long enough to read the Mets column Wally's currently working on deep within Mount Doom. I hear he's going to ink it in blood and deliver it to Newsday bound in human flesh.

Any fan who doesn't at least acknowledge that the Mets could blow the division is beyond wearing blue and orange glasses.

All I heard this offseason was how the Mets had taken a step back, the Phils and Braves were improved and how this whole season was going to be a dog fight coming down to the last week....that was from even those expecting a repeat of the division crown, let alone the masses that had already handed the crown over to the Phils or Braves. This offseason I didnt hear anyone saying this was another season where the Mets would push 100 wins....most were saying 90-95...and that's right what they're on pace for.

Well guess what, that's exactly what we have.....and people are surprised by this?

I've said it all year - I'll believe the Phils are an actual threat when they actually get infront of the Mets. Until they do, I'll continue to believe they are the same pretenders they've been for the last decade.

Could the Mets blow it in the end? Absolutely, but I'm not going to get all worked up and start cursing the heavens like a number of people here because we've seen this time and time again this year. The Mets have not played good ball this year. They are a flawed team. Same is true for every other team out there in the AL or NL. Only the Angels have any kind of significant lead. But they've also shown time and time again, when things get tight they are able to elevate their game and keep the competition at bay.

I don't care how they do it, I just want to see them get into the playoffs because I think more than any other year in recent history its a complete roll of the dice on who's going to make it all the way.
