| This article from NJ. com sys it all: Posted by Ryan McConnell September 17, 2007 3:03AM Categories: Games I've been a fan of the Mets for roughly 25 years, a period in which they've made the playoffs a grand total of five times. I can say without qualification that each of those seasons provided a sizable amount of joy to me as a fan. Yes, I'm still bitter about Mike Scioscia, Kirk Gibson and Orel Hershiser stealing the pennant from a clearly superior Mets team in '88, and sure, I could have done without Bobby V's near-total collapse in '99. But, all in all, those teams -- at least in retrospect -- were a ton of fun. I can't say the same about this year's model. In fact, if I had to describe the 2007 Mets in one word, "fun" wouldn't break into the top 10. It didn't help that they played at a .650 clip for the first two months of the season, inspiring confidence in a team that would go on win just two games more than they'd lose for the rest of the season. But it's not only the unfulfilled expectations that has made this team so disappointing. It's Paul Lo Duca getting himself ejected when his team needs him on Friday night. It's Jose Reyes getting caught stealing third base with two outs and the team's best hitter up at the plate on Saturday. It's Willie Randolph showing faith in a reliever who simply can't get the job done. It's committing six errors in a game that could put away their last threat to winning the NL East. It's not coming up big when it matters most, most notably in this past weekend but, really, throughout the entire season. Add it all up, and the 2007 Mets have been a whole lot more frustrating than fun. Yet, when the playoffs being in October, the Mets will almost certainly be one of the eight teams with a chance to take home the ring. With a 3.5 game lead and 14 games to go, all of which are against second-division teams (six vs. the Nats, seven vs. the Marlins, one make-up game vs. the Cards), it would take a catastrophic collapse to do otherwise. But if the unthinkable should occur, I can't say I'll be crushed. How can you be let down by a team that hasn't given its fans a true reason to believe? |

| I'd think that was NPG, but nowhere in the article did it say the team is an absolute joke. ![]()
