| Yep. Great points. I was actually shocked to see those quotes from Wright in there. I know he was probably pissed after yesterday's game, but it's now clear that through his leadership-type, rally-the-troops attempt, he's basically admitted that the Braves are in HIS head. Not very smart. Though, who am I to speak to saying smart vs. dumb things when I'm frustrated and angry. ![]()

| If they had won yesterday it would have completely nullified, in my opinion anyway, any thoughts the Braves had about owning the Mets. Now that thought can be perpetuated and who can blame them for thinking they can beat the Mets in a series at will, every single time? They play them again in a couple of weeks, this time in Atlanta. I hope the Mets clean up against the Marlins, Nationals and Pirates between now and then, because if the Braves are within a game or two they WILL be in the Mets' heads when they play next. The Mets wouldn't be human if they weren't in their heads. I don't give a sh*t how many days the Mets have been in first and conversely, I couldn't care less about the 14 titles. I think they are both irrelevant. What matters now, in 2007, when they play head-to-head is this and only this: How have they fared versus each other? The answer certainly doesn't favor the Mets, so I hope they either grow a sack of balls and beat them once and for all or are too far ahead for it to make a difference. I have zero confidence right now that they will beat them if they ever really have to this season. They have owned them and they have wiped the field with them overall. Wright's comments aren't inaccurate. I don't care how much blind optimism you have, the first two games of that series in Atlanta, if their lead is only a game or two, will be about as comfortable as giving birth to a hippo. |

| am I the only person who thinks tuesday's loss was waaay worse than yesterday's? anyway, good article. I can only imagine how the NY media in general would be treating the mets if they were 8-4 against atlanta, but in second place behind the braves. |

| This article on Metsblog just pissed me off: Jeff Schultz of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes that Chipper Jones' words were skewed by the New York media: "If the Braves could just figure out a way to fly insult-hurling New York fans and mutant tabloid headline writers to other cities, they would rarely lose a road game... "For some reason, he has thrived in this toilet of a stadium and the appropriately named surroundings of Flushing. As pitcher Tim Hudson joked, 'They hate him here for a reason. It’s like an ongoing joke for us when we come to New York. You know their fans are going to be crazy, and Chipper’s going to drive in six or eight in a series.'" |

| This was a good piece, and you have to like Willie's approach to the whle Braves/Mets dynamic. Now, whether what he said to the press belies his true feelings on the subject, who knows, but I think he truly believes in what he is saying. Good for Willie, and the Mets.

| Nonsense. He's the only contemporary manager that consistently does stuff that is so exactly the right thing to do, there could and should have been no other way. He's as well prepared and versed in both the game and what his players are capable of as you almost can possibly be. And I hate him and his stupid team. |

| I completely agree, but they get their cue from the New York media, who kept saying the exact same thing.

| I loved Willie's quotes about the chop and the Rogers' era, everyone does need to get past that crap it has no relevance in 2007. And man he was kinda throwing, Green and Lo Duca under the bus, lol. I don't have a problem with what Wright said either. Standings wise the Mets are where they want to be, they don't want to switch places with the Braves. In the end it might not matter at all whether or not the Mets ever win a series from the Braves this yr, but they are a big rival and its frustrating to lose to them. If it were the Phillies who the Mets lost every series to, a rival, but without the history of breaking Mets fans hearts, it still would be just as annoying. |
