Default The schedule gods....

Looking at the Phils, Barfs and Mets schedules....

I'd say the Phils have the toughest schedule and they're going to be w/o Utley for a while, so that, by default, makes the Barfs much more scary.

The Barfs and Mets have similar schedules and THEY are 4 back.

But the SCARIEST part for us is not the fact that the Barfs own us and we have 6 aganist them (the law of averages is bound to even out eventually), rather that they torched our two bst pitchers. Even if we make postseason, and the odds are in our favor, the decline of those two is trouble, especially if Pedro is unable to return to any semblance of a serviceable starter. We cant run lawrence out there every 5 games.

Honestly, there is no doubt that the Braves have terrorized the Mets for well over a decade and logically we should be concerned about the upcoming 6 games. But honestly, the Braves have been just as inconsistent, if not more, than the Mets. Just as the Braves come off of impressive wins at the Mets expense they seem to turn around and lose to teams like the Nats, Marlins, Rockies, etc. The fact of the matter is that the Mets need to be concerned about all of the teams left (not just the Braves) on the schedule.

The truth is that the media is making more of this Mets-Braves series than I think the players are. All of these remaining games are critical. This is not the post-season, and indeed, most Mets fans will remember than in 1988 we absolutely owned the LA Dodgers during the regular season. Then the post-season came and the Dodgers turned around and eliminated us. Although we have not played to our potential, these are not Mets teams of the late 90s and early part of this decade. Despite the season record, I do believe that this Mets team is better than the Braves. When the time comes payback will be a *****. Who knows..maybe the next time we meet the Mets will return the favor and eliminate the Braves from the post-season. If we play to our potential vs. other teams then the Mets-Braves series may not be as important as it seems now in terms of the post-season.

But let's forget the 3 runs Perez allowed and the 20 Ks he had over 20 1/3 innings in his first three starts against them.

Much like we can forget about the Mets first two months because the last 2+ is all that matters this season.

If the playoffs started next week, our rotation would be El Duque, Glavine, Maine, Perez.

Two soft-tossers followed by two harder throwers? Eh. I think Willie (yes, even Willie) would mix it up a bit more. I'd think it would be Duque, Maine, Glavine, Perez.

Jers...come on, man.

You must REALLY hate when the Braves beat the Mets. This is the only time of year the past two seasons when you get this negative.
