Default The Braves Are In Trouble

After the last 2 games, I'd be worried if I were a Braves fan.

You cannot feel good about your bullpen if you are. It took some unbelievable luck for the Braves to take today's game.

Hell, they had 4 incredibly lucky plays in the 5th alone -- Teixiera's diving stop of Castillo's ball, Johnson's play on Wright's for the 2nd out, Teixiera (again!) on a ball nearly thrown away by Escobar after Alou's hit and Green not pulling a Mookie.

Then there was the fact that it took a miracle, Endy-style catch in the 9th to keep the Mets from tying the game.

Hit my head and call me Padrino, but I feel better about the Mets than I have in weeks.

The Braves are in trouble.

Again, the Mets haven't played like a first-place team in a very long time. They're there by default.

Default or not. there still in first...

And when it comes down to October all that matters is that they were in first, not how they played..

Take a look at last years Cards for prime example

actually I think they've been playing like a first-place team for a few weeks now. it hasn't been pretty, but they've been winning, which is the bottom line.

I think what gets people is the omnipresent sense that something is missing. maybe they're not winning quite enough, or doing all of the little things, or that they haven't really gone on a hot streak this year (what's their biggest winning streak? four? and that was the first four games of the season?). or all of it.

I wonder what it would be like around here if the Mets had been forced to pull a play out of their arses like the one Harris made just to avoid blowing a five run lead in the ninth? I bet luck and doom would be one of many four letter words tossed around...

And beating the Fish is almost as critical as this game was. When your two closest rivals are separated by a half game you have to take advantage when they play each other. Win and you at least put more distance between you and one of them...

A sweep of the Fish and 2-of-3 in the Braves/Phillies series would be ideal (doesn't really matter which team it is, as long as nobody sweeps)...

I'm not sure how you classify some of those plays as luck. Isn't Tex a gold glover?

Rafael Palmiero won a gold glove at first base playing almost 85% of the season as a DH. The point is, they were as fortunate as they were good, and that happens in baseball.

Seeing how this season has gone, something tells me that by Wednesday of next week the Braves and Phillies will be about 4.5 to 5.5 games back each.

They had Cops on the TV in this restaurant I was in the other day. I think I saw one of their shirtless, mullet wearing fans being shoved into the backseat of a patrol car.

Defaulting their way to the best record in the NL and another division title....sweet. Hopefully they default their way to a WS victory.
