In the event the Mets play the Braves...Who do you think Vegas will love then? They have our number this year! It's not a small sampling. They own us!

That was a one-time abberation, you old coot.

The Braves have ALWAYS beaten the Mets when it counted going all the way back to 1998.

Vegas' odds are determined by the amount of action placed on each team, not by who they actually think is going to win. If Vegas loves the Mets, it's because gamblers love the Mets, and guess what? A lot of gamblers, and people for that matter, are from New York. You're usually going to get poor odds betting on any New York team for that very reason.

Why should Bill be concerned with details?

Ask Bill.

If I felt the oddsmakers are wrong, I'd put a lot of money on the Braves, Phils, or whatever team I think is better.

3-, 4- or 10+- to one would be verrry tempting.

The point is that no matter how frustrated we become, gamblers (who are in most cases detached from the sort of loyalty we know) still consider the Mets a decent bet.

Or it could be that there are always a bunch of idiot tourists in LV from the NY area laying money on the Mets so the odds never get that high.

OR it could be the Vegas odd's makers are not as fond as foes like the Phillies, and just laying it on the fact that the Phillies have never played the part, know what I'm sayin'

But in LV, you see significant numbers of tourists from LA, SD, and Phoenix, which are withing driving distance. Wouldn't that naturally offset the number of dopey NY people in town?

The tourists (NY or otherwise) may drop a $20 bet here and there, or up to $100 or so. But the "pros", the big-money guys, carry the day.

If I were a Braves fan, or Cubs or Phils, I'd be very happy getting those odds to make things interesting. I'm not a sports bettor, or a big gambler ($5 Blackjack is my speed), but I'd put $50 down to make $250+ if I thought the team I was getting those odds on had a good chance to do the job.
