Default David Wright Disappearing Act? I Need Some Facts.

I was watching tonights game at a Sportsbar in the city and there were some Braves fans in town. Of course, we started getting into it and they started to talk about Wright's lack of performance in big games...They mentioned how he disappeared in the NLCS last year and how he has done nothing vs. the Braves the last 2 years. I started to think about this and it seems as if they have a point. Has David really come up big in games with playoff implications??? I thought that he had a decent NLDS last year but has he really been a presence in big games? It seems like thus far...no is the answer?????? Anyway, I told the Braves fans to go screw themselves for it is way too early to judge Wright's performance in the post-season.

I can recall two games last year ALONE that he had huge hits in. Walk-off hits vs. the Braves and the Yankees.

I also recall a really big game last year against the Phillies where he saved Wagner's ass with an INSANE double play against a SHOT by Pat Burrell.

The kid will be fine. Hopefully, he gets back to the playoffs, and he'll do better, so Braves fans will have something else to make fun of the Mets for as they're sitting on their couches watching the NL East Champs instead of their 3rd place team, currently 1/2 game behind a team with absolutely no pitching to speak of.

Braves fans tend to be less knowledgable that Yankee fans, if such a thing is possible.

Yep. Furthermore, the Braves fans are also lacking some knowledge of basic statistics if they're ripping on Wright for his NLCS performance. 7 games is somewhat of a small sample size, no?

Again, its the old debate over what is a big game? Playoffs- yes, Wright was good in the NLDS, very bad in the NLCS. This yr it is true he hasn't done much against the Braves, but he has done well against the Yanks, Phils, LA, SD, Chicago and Milwaukee all teams who going into the series people were saying are good teams and 'big series'. As for last yr, the Mets pretty much ran away with everything all yr, so I don't think the games against Atl or Phil could really be considered all that "big".

Despite his sucky performance in the NLCS last yr, if it came down to it this yr, in a big spot with the game on the line, Wright is the guy I'd take up at the plate more than anybody else on this team (except if Smoltz was pitching, then he'd K, but you get the point).

with it all on the line for the Mets there is only one player I want to see standing at the plate, and it is Reyes, until Wright proves otherwise he is more shiney than polished.

David is my farovite player but I am concerned about him and very frustrated too. I expected him to improve on his strikeouts this year but he seems to be going the other way. He keeps watching the strikes right down the pipe and keeps swinging at those 2 feet off the plate outside sliders. I mean at some point you adjust to that crap but David just keeps on going after them. I'm hoping Hojo can get him back on the path but it's not happening fast enough for me.

Ehh... Reyes hasn't "proven" anything either. But I wouldnt really mind having him up either. But I'd trust both of the more than the Carloses who supposedly have a good track record in that sort of thing.

Wright's slugging .222 against the Braves this year. Delgado is slugging .227. On the other hand, each of them is absolutely murdering the Phillies.

At least he's contributing something, as opposed that guy in the lounge chair.

They were saying during the broadcast last night, that wright is now something like 1 for 30, in his last 30 at bats against the braves.

Reyes has excelled for nearly two years with RISP, RISP and two outs, bases loaded situations, games against the Braves, Phillies, and the playoffs. That is enough for me.

Well Reyes has definitely been better against the Braves, but he wasn't all that great in te playoffs last yr either. And both have been good the past couple yrs in the RISP, bases loaded, close and late and all that.

I would have said that last year, but Reyes has had some horrendous at bats in big spots since the middle of May. Wright has been spotty in big spots most of the season, but the last month or so he's turned it around.
