Default Glavine "wavering" (not "waivering") re: '08

From John Delcos' LoHud Blog today:

Quote:
Glavine on his future
August
7 Tom Glavine said his feelings about his future sway with how he is pitching. After winning 300 on Sunday, Glavine thought about coming back for another year.

After a bad game he’s done; after a good one he wants to return.

Glavine said the next six weeks will help him reach a decision. He said the combination of his health and how well he’s pitching will help him decide.
BTW--He'll be interviewed during the "Sports Night" show on SNY at 6:00.

Not "big" news, but a shift from his previous comments which strongly leaned toward retirement.

$9 million for next year? That's pretty much market value for an ERA in the 4.20 range these days. If he can put together a strong final three months like last year it could become a bargain...

I think most folks felt he'd announce his retirement, effective after the Mets win their last game , after he had obtained 300.

If he's in the back-end of the rotation? Yes.

And I was one of them.

Now the question is: IF he plays next year, which team will it be for? He has enjoyed playing here, and even more so if he gets The Ring, but he has always been concerned about his family.

I don't really think there is a "back end" per se. Whoever is pitching worst becomes #5, but after #1 everything's interchangeable. I could certainly live with Maine at #1 and some combo of Pedro/Perez/Glavine/whoever wins out between Duque, Sosa, Pelfrey, Humber, and anyone whom Omar might sign in the Winter.

Duque's outpitched Glavine this year I think it's safe to say that Duque's locked into a rotation spot as long as he's healthy.

As long as until September 4th, then.
