Default Piazza Clears Waivers

Would anyone want him? He can't be worse than Lo Duca, can he?

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2962510

Realistically, it doesn't make much sense, since Lo Duca and Castro aren't going anywhere, but he'd be a solid bat off the bench in the role Sandy Alomar was holding for a little while, and he'd certainly be better than crap like David Newhan. Thoughts?

I'd take him, if he knew his place. But only then.

I'd figure he'll end up with the Angels I'd love to see him hit a walkoff homerun to beat the Stankees in the ALDS.

Yeah, nothing like a 8.5 mil bench player who knows his place. That will put this team over the top.

The Piazza train has left the station. Move on people.

The team that picks him up does not pay that salary.

What's your point? Do you really think the A's are just going to release him?

That actually is true, to an extent.

If Piazza is released and passes through waivers the A's are on the hook for his ENTIRE salary or the difference between what the new teams willing to pay him, usually the league minimum. The only way the A's are off the hook is if he's claimed during the waiver period and they let him leave.

The McGimpy does most things upside down: eats, sleeps (an average of 23 hours per day), mates, and gives birth. Because of the McGimpy's upside down life, many of the McGimpy's internal organs (liver, stomach, spleen, pancreas) are in different positions from other mammals. McGimpy sometimes lets out a cry or hissing sound.

During the rare times the McGimpy goes down to the ground (such as to change trees for food), it moves very slowly.

sorry, should have been more clear and said that if another takes him that the A's are the team still on the hook. i took the long island met to mean that he thought the A's were on the hook if the mets took him off waivers

Which if the team really wants to get rid of the player at any cost, they can really screw the claiming team by just letting the player go.

This is the reason a lot of teams won't just be putting tons of claims in apparently.

how does this really screw other teams? if they out right release piazza then if he still wants to play what is to stop him from signing a contract for a lower amount?
