Default Has there been a worse free-agent signing...

...this year than Barry Zito?

7-10 with almost a 4.50 ERA.... all for a cool 126 million.

Even GIL MECHE has pitched better.

Scott Schowenweis comes to mind but Zito is much worse.

Aside from the $$$, Schoeneweis at least has been getting better as the season has progressed. Yesterday was the second time in July he's been scored on, and even then shouldn't have been (1B, bunt 1B, "grazed" batter, blown DP ball).

I'd put Igawa, J.D. Drew, and Lugo on the "worst" list way ahead of him.

Didn't Zito say at some point this off-season that he wanted to play for a contender? Well, he doesn't and he isn't pitching worth a **** on top of that!

Enjoy your money Barry.

His ERA is now an even FIVE! Only his poor W/L record keeps him from being a contender for the "Stevie" Award. Looks like Adam Eaton has a lock on that one.

Frankly, I think all the "playing for a contender" commentary from the Zito camp was utter nonsense. As with most all ballplayers, its almost always about the money. He and His agent said all the right things, and got exactly what they wanted.

With 126 million coming your way, do you really feel as if Zito gives a half of a damn if the Giants win or not ? I doubt it. He's laughing all the way to the bank !

Zito is the perfect example of how free agency is at its all time worst.

Possibly Carl Pavano by the Yankees was probably worse. I don't think he ever pitched in a game for the Yanks for around for 45 million dollars.

I would say Kei Igawa for the Yankees has been a worst contract. The posting fee was around 40 mil and the guy can't pitch.

David Wright tried to warn them.

Didn't the Mets bid on this guy too?

Isn't there a rule against having two jerkoffs named Barry on the same team?
