| Broke his leg last night, no way he gets to 400AB for the season. So no way hes back next year. I'm never happy someone gets hurt, but to look at this is a positive light - I'm interested in seeing what Gotay can do as a regular. He has a .263 career average with over 500AB. He's only 24 and chances are, as a regular that will go up. He looks pretty good out there with the glove as well. |

Why are the chances that a guy who could only muster a .275 career batting average in the minors, will have his major league batting average go up? | |

| Possible name that COULD end up on Omar;s radar.. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/...YyMTyAueiFCLcF Jul 20 Bill Ladson, of Nationals.MLB.com, reports Washington Nationals 2B Ronnie Belliard is drawing interest as the trade deadline approaches. Avg HR RBI Runs SB .307 5 29 23 1 Having a decent year...last year showed a decent glove AGAINST mets anyway..although last I saw he looked like "Minnie Manny" appearance wise..perhaps he could be had cheaply IF NEEDED.. Another possibility generating interest accross town..could be more useful as he plays many positions.. http://www.nypost.com/seven/07212007...el_sherman.htm SOURCE: D'RAYS WOULD TRADE TY FOR PROCTOR By GEORGE KING and JOEL SHERMAN July 21, 2007 -- Earlier this week the Devil Rays believed it would take more than Scott Proctor for the Yankees to pry utility man Ty Wigginton away from them. Now, according to multiple sources, the Devil Rays would make the trade. And though it's not clear if the Yankees have made an offer, they have been talking to the Devil Rays and have discussed converting stud prospect Joba Chamberlain from Double-A starter to big-league reliever to take Proctor's place. "They don't want anything else of significance," a source said of the Devil Rays' plans. "They are ready to make the deal." Ideally, the Yankees would like to dump underachieving Kyle Farnsworth, but his $5.25 million this year and $5.5 million next season is too rich for the cash-strapped Devil Rays, who are more attracted to Proctor's $445,923 salary for this season. The Yankees and Rockies have discussed Farnsworth, but the Rockies want the Yankees to pay the bulk of what's left on the contract and the Yankees are unwilling to do that. Wigginton, a well-respected 29-year-old right-handed hitter, would provide the Yankees with a player who can play first, second, third base and be used as a designated hitter. He went 0-for-3 in last night's 14-4 Devil Rays victory and is batting .278 with 14 homers and 47 RBIs. Because the Yankees are looking to upgrade their bullpen, deleting the disappointing Proctor seemingly hurts their weakest unit. Nevertheless, elevating Chamberlain from Trenton (Double-A) and using him in relief could more than fill the vacancy. They also could bring up lefty Sean Henn from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (Triple-A). GM Brian Cashman was in New Britain last night to watch Chamberlain pitch. In six starts for Trenton, Chamberlain was 4-1 with a 2.08 ERA. In 342/3innings, Chamberlain had fanned 57 and walked 12. As for Wigginton, his career started in the Mets system. He played for them from 2002-04. Wigginton, a career .265 hitter coming into the season, also has played for the Pirates. After a stellar 2006 season, Proctor's lack of command has caused problems. He is 2-5 with a 3.63 ERA but has issued 29 walks and whiffed 36 in 52 innings. He gave up a homer to B.J. Upton in an inning last night. In addition to the Devil Rays, the Dodgers have expressed interest in the 30-year-old Proctor. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- If they would ask for Proctor for Wiggy... Erin for Wiggy would likely get it done IMO.. Too much? Maybe they could get a prospect back..... Drays with 2 #1 Mets picks Erin/Kaz..lol.. |

| I doubt with Easley and now Anderson available Gotay gets starting time. As for Belliard, while I would like his bat in the lineup there is no way I could watch him lick his lips day after day like that....friggin nasty |

IMO his days as a regular are done, and I'm rooting for Ruben to win the job. If he doesn't, then we'll have to look elsewhere (I'd try for Hudson or Phillips, but doubt they're available) this Winter. But if Omar wants JV back as a part-timer, he'll sign him.

| Super Moderator | Considering he has torn ACL to take care of, Valentin isn't going to be back anywhere for quite a while. My guess is Omar looks elsewhere for a 2B this winter. For now, it will be the Gotay/Anderson/Easley trio (with Gotay getting most of the PT against righties) for the rest of the season, unless something becomes available that is named Phillips, Roberts, or Hudson...

| Super Moderator | I still think that "Trading Places" continues to be the best movie Eddie Murphy starred in (aside from Delirious and Raw)... Always watch when it is on.
