| Forgive me if this is a stupid question, and I searched all the threads before I posted it but what exactly is the status with Pedro? I know he had that shutdown after the July 5th (?) sim game, but is he still in the "resting" phase? Does he have rehab starts scheduled, etc.? Again, apologies for redundancies...

| Today's Post: The other prominent injured Met, Pedro Martinez, has been on his rehab hiatus, and yesterday Minaya insisted that the injured ace “is fine.” Martinez still hasn’t thrown his second simulated game or begun his rehab assignment - one of which was supposed to be the next step following his hiatus. The GM said Martinez has been doing some throwing during his rest and insisted he’s “very confident” the pitcher will return this season. The Mets have been projecting him back in August. |

| From Yahoo Jul 19 Martinez (rotator cuff surgery) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session in the Dominican Republic Thursday, the NY Daily News reports. Recommendation: Martinez, who last pitched off a mound Monday in his native country, could then throw a second simulated game in Port St. Lucie, possibly as soon as this weekend. Pedro made his first simulated start on July 3 and then was given time off to recharge his batteries with some websites and columnists speculating that Martinez was shut down due to problems with his rehab. A better sense of his status will come once he pitches the simulated game and is then scheduled for his minor-league rehab start, which if all goes well, could occur sometime next week. |

| I read that a hiatus was planned as a part of Pedro's rehabilitation. Is this the planned hiatus?

| Here you go...this is what I meant. Martinez's soreness could be real body blow to team Friday, July 20, 2007 BY DON BURKE Star-Ledger Staff LOS ANGELES -- Pedro Martinez was supposed to shut down his rehab program for a week to 10 days, a mental-health respite coinciding with baseball's All-Star break. But the three-time Cy Young Award winner is still on a hiatus, leading to questions about when and if he'll ever be ready to rejoin the Mets following last October's rotator cuff surgery. "It's his body. He's going to give us feedback when he's ready," Mets general manager Omar Minaya said before last night's game against the Dodgers, while assuring that Martinez would return this season. "You've got to remember the next phase of this, once the clock starts you have 30 days (to complete his minor-league rehab starts). "(The break is) with the recommendation of (team medical director) Dr. (David) Altchek, who believes this is the best way to go, (to) physically and mentally shut it down. Once (Martinez) starts it up again, it's game time." Minaya, who stressed that Martinez is healthy, said the 35-year-old right-hander has been throwing lightly during his sabbatical. Once he returns to Port St. Lucie, Fla., -- and the Mets are not quite sure when that will be -- Martinez is expected to throw a simulated game. All along, the Mets have targeted Martinez's return for "some time" in August, and that timetable doesn't seem to have changed. "When you're dealing with an injury, there is no specific time," Minaya said. "The body will tell him when it's right or when it's wrong. ... A lot of things go into it. ... What we don't want to do is we don't want to put a date (on him and) say you have to go (on) that date and all the work he has been done goes back." |

| i think the author assumed we'd realize that is why he's on hiatus, so didn't request a quote confirming it. it makes sense. pitchers go through this during rehab. He ain't on hiatus because he has a tummy ache from Daisy May's BBQ Just a guess. I didn't write it, so it's hard to say. Either way, would anybody really be shocked if he didn't help us this year? |

But unless there is a ACTUAL report of such a thing, putting it in the article title is just not the way to go. Martinez's Possible Soreness, or Martinez's Absence are a couple of alternates maybe!
