Default Interesting news on Pelf

From another board:

Peter Gammons was on ESPN radio today and remarked that the Red Sox now blame Scott Boras for ****ing with Craig Hansen's mechanics.. According to Gammons, Boras keeps his own staff of coaches who advise his clients to keep deliveries that will prolong their career even if it alters the player's ability. Jayson Stark has remarked that the same thing has happened to former stud Mike Pelfrey and that it is a situation that is now permeating throughout the league.

So now we know why Pelf can't strike anyboy out or even get a swing and a miss.

Can't blame St. Rick.

**** you Boras

This would have made a lot more sense in the beginning of the year, but Pelfrey's been back to 2006 form for awhile. And when I say 2006 form I still mean not ready though, which is obviously still the case. His stuff was better the second time around, but it still needs the rest of the year in AAA...

Anyway, Jayson Stark said this today in one of his columns. I'm not sure if Gammons has said it as well, but it's a Stark thing to begin with. He and Boras have been having a cat fight since he included Andruw Jones in his most overrated book...

Hey, at least there's SOMETHING interesting about Pelf....

Pelfrey does have 26 K's in his last 20 or so minor league innings, which is about where he was last year. I can understand he was here again out of need, but leave the kid be for the rest of the year. Hopefully Pedro will be the one who fills in when Duque takes his second vacation...

Agreed and really this is what should have happened from the beginning. Pelf should have started the year in AAA to begin with and then if he was knocking the door down could have been called up when/if someone got hurt/sucked.

There's a 2nd thread on this very subject..

Boras to blame for Pelfrey's season?

But, I'll copy and past the blurb from Starks column here as well..

"The Mets have sent signals that they're now willing to move Mike Pelfrey in a big deal. But an official of one team that has been scouting the Mets' system says: "To be honest, I don't know if I'd take Pelfrey right now, the way he's throwing. I think he's been [Scott] Boras-ized. I'm not seeing the same stuff I saw before. And he's showing a stubbornness that rubs me the wrong way, like [the Boras operation] has convinced him that their way is the better way. I'm seeing this with his guys all over now, and it's becoming a problem all over the industry.""

Is Boras really so stupid as to jeopardize his own clients' mechanics and future career earnings this way?

Always good to draft college kids who still do not have 2ndary pitches and poise. never liked the pick and he will be a bust.

He's not a winner. Only a ****ing idiot can't tell when they first see a pitcher if they have the inate ability to be special. Even when they take their lumps (bonderman/verlander)

This guy is nothing compared to them, real aces in the making, and should be sent packing ASAP if he has any positive value left.

Aaah so you thought Mike Scott was going to one day be the most feared pitcher in the league did you? Knew that Santana kid had it when he was exposed to the Rule 5? Man how is it you're not GM?
