Default The week ahead

The Mets & Phils play Colorado and Houston, the Braves are at LA and San Diego.

I like our chances of opening the gap by at least 2 games.

mets have to avoid the aftermath of the last time they played a game like this; i.e., when they were going for the sweep but mailed it in against tyler clippard on sunday night at shea, then sleepwalked (sleptwalked?) through atlanta.

I don't think they necessarily went sleepwalking through today's game - they hit a lot of balls hard against Kendrick (Green's line-out to third, Beltran's shot that was right at Howard for a DP come to mind). That's all you can really do, you can't really control hitting it right at someone...

I don't feel that. I think this team will excel on the road this time. It also helps playing 2 crap-tastic teams. (col has lost a ton since their Yankee sweep).

maybe it was CBP aided, but the Mets at least finally looked confident swinging the bats, would like to see more non-homerun scoring though.

Like in the first inning yesterday.

anything less than 4-3 should be considered a major letdown heading into the All Star Break. I'm just hoping that they still have a lead of 3ish games heading into the break.

Agreed.

I'm a day-to-day type guy with games cuz you never know, but based on who their playing and the Mets looking crisp over the last 10 games, 4-3 is the MINIMUM this team should go heading into the break.

Agree with the agreement.

point taken; I think what I was trying to get at was that this is probably the first real "feelgood" loss (if there is such a thing) since that clippard game; they then went into atlanta without too many worries and got their hats handed to them.

I can't begrudge the Mets for not playing as desperately as the Phils yesterday since they did so many good things this weekend, but I'd like to see their intensity really return tonight in Colorado.

I'll be disappointed with anything less than 5-2 on the trip (2-1 in Colo and 3-1 in Hou), but if Vargas is pitching 2 of the 7 games and Pelfrey another, I'll gladly settle for 4-3.

But I'd still rather have Maine instead of Vargas.

They should go 5-2, based on the opponent records, but that has meant little to nothing for the Mets this year. 4-3 would be more likely.
