Default The Phillies are due for some retaliation

First Hamels..shooting his mouth off at LoDuca...now Reyes gets obviously thrown at. I would be really surprised if either Rollins, Utley, or Burrell are not plunked by one of the Mets pitchers (notice I didn't say Howard because there is no way in hell that I would have that guy charge the mound). Anyway, I think the time has come to make a statement with the bats but I would be really surprised if the Mets let this Reyes incident slide. You don't let your best player get thrown at with retaliating. You just don't!

I agree...but it's not worth it unless it's a blowout or something of that nature. The Mets are up five games right now with a chance to continue to step on the Phillies throats. They're the ones that need to panic...not the Mets.

It might happen eventually, but I wouldn't think tonight.

I'm not sure it was an intentionaly shot at Reyes - Hamels was pitching like **** all night with poor control. I don't see him being stupid enough to do it with a 3 ball count with Green at 3rd. Especially as his beef was with Lo Duca. It's possible that he is that dumb for all I know, but IMO it could have actually been his crappy pitching getting away from him.

I'd still like to see a brawl, just cos I can't stand the Phils.

I'd like to see a brawl just to see it. I love base brawls. It seems everytime there is a chance of a throwdown with the Mets, cooler heads prevail. It's way past time for the Mets to give in to their anger and STRIKE down their enemies.

I agree Lo Duca can pretend that the Phillies players are beat writers, and slug away.

The best retaliation? A sweep.

Yeah!

I'd LOVE a basebrawl that leads to Reyes, Wright, Maine, Wagner or Perez losing significant time due to broken fingers, bruised ribs or twisted ankles!

That'd be great............ (cue

Exactly.

At this point...if PHI wants to start something, then whatever happens, happens. The Mets don't need to be doing anything except pounding the sh*t out of that gutless team.

I don't think the Mets will do anything. IMO they're a very passive bunch of guys starting with their manager. They haven't protected their players for quite a few years.

Lo Duca flipped his bat after hitting a homer off of Hamels a couple weeks ago, and Hamels made some comments in the paper the next day talking bout how Duca showboated, and that the next time he faces the Mets Lo Duca will be worried that he might be drilled.

Add Gomez getting plunked today to the mix.

Maybe Ollie gets a Phllie in the ribs tomorrow. Might be worth looking into. But then again, why fire up a team that's already half in the ditch? Let them flop in first.

As I said in the IGT after Gomez was hit - you pay them back by leaving town 7 games up. Period, end of story.

Once the division is locked up (if we get to that point), THEN you can talk about drilling someone. No reason to wake them up now.
