| I'll admit that he is not totally ready and at times seems overmatched, but this kid is hustling and using his speed to catalyze the lower part of the order. At first I wasn't impress, but I hope that he stays for awhile now. His defense is improving and when Alou returns and while Chavez is out I wouldn't mind seeing him as a late inning defensive replacement in LF. Anyone else sold on him?? |

| For a kid in Low A ball 2 years ago, I am defiitely impressed. It's clear he'll be a great defensive player and a force, like Reyes, on the basepaths. He has power and game changing ability too. But what I like is that he's 21, certainly not ready, and he's had some great at bats where he's laid off junk, worked the count and even walked. Not a lot of times, but he's slowly learning. And with 0 protection in the 8 hole, he had hit .360+ for a few weeks in June which was a good sign. If somebody o the Mets (good luck) teaches him to be patient and to continue working on that, he'll be a force even sooner than we expect. Very impressed. And there is no pressure on him because he was never suppossed to be ready. It's a great position to be in. And proof that you can be a major market team and not collapse by having talented kid promoted, even if he is not quite ready. You don't always have to go for the career minor leaguer, which is tremendous. |

| I agree he could use more polishing, and I'll be sorry to see him go when Alou/Chavez return...but I like what this kid brings and if he continues to play the way he has...I'll be pretty upset actually if he does get sent out, though I know it'll be for the best. |

I love this kid and I'll be pissed if Omar listens to the people here who want to trade him for pitching.

| The way he's playing now, with improved offensive ability he's basically become Endy - with more speed. That in itself is a good thing, but considering that he's more than likely to keep improving I'm very happy that Omar didn't throw him away in a trade for some mediocre pitcher over the offseason as OTT pundits kept pushing for. |

That's not what I want for a 21 year old who played all of 5 weeks at AAA and has been labeled a star in the making. Maybe he's the real deal and doesn't need to go back down...but playing once or twice a week plus PR/PH isn't the best thing for him. | |

Then this Winter, if Endy gets a better offer somewhere else (as has been reported) Ledee can be re-signed as a back-up. If Endy stays, Ledee goes. Either way, I see Gomez as a starting corner OFer here in '08.

| That's exactly what I see as Lofton's role. I'd like more pop, but a .300 BA plus the ability to draw walks is a lot better than what Ledee offers. If he can't play the field better than Jolly Roger, Gomez gets more playing time till Endy gets back.

| I've liked him from the start. Yes, he was overmatched, but the kid has proven coachable and improves leaps and bounds in short periods of time. He does not look so overmatched anymore and the last I check his average has improved. I think that if he is left in the starting outfield, he will continue to improve. As is, he is helping the team. And no, I do not want him as a late inning replacement, he needs at bats.
