Default Tuesday Night's starter--Why not Maine?

He's cruised tonight, and in his last few games. If he starts Tuesday, on 3 days' rest:

We don't have to juggle the roster to bring up Pelfrey (or someone else).

Duque and the rest of our SPs get to go on their normal rest.

Maine can start (on normal rest) in next Sunday's game leading into the break, with other SPs available in relief if needed.

Unless there's some reason why Willie/Pete feel he can't go that soon, I'd do it.

On another note, why is the Phils' 4th inning run "Earned"? If not for Duke's E, Bourn wouldn't have been on 3rd to score on the SF.

From CBS Sportsline:
Quote:
Michael Bourn: Bourn singled to center.
Bourn stole second, Bourn to third on Lo Duca's throwing error, Ball, Utley hit sacrifice fly to left, Bourn scored.
Ryan Howard: Howard grounded out to second.

If the pitcher for NO that night is Vargas or Lawrence, call them up. If it is Humber or Pelfrey I think they should go with Maine on 3-days rest provided he is comfortable doing so...

Lawrence pitched tonight (very well, too). Vargas has been mostly ineffective all year.

It's not.

Maine's already on pace to go at least 50 innings over his previous season high at any level. Maybe an extra day of rest won't mean too much in the whole scheme of things (mostly the playoffs), but why take that chance? Sure the team could get a W against the mighty Rockies, but as far as Maine is concerned there's nothing to be gained from it...

Just pitch Sele and be done with it, then if he gets bombed in the second bring in Character and see how bad it can get. There is something devilishly intriguing about watching Schoenewies pitch 6 innings allowing 23 hits and 16 runs

Just keep in mind that whoever pitches Tuesday will ALSO pitch next Sunday. Do you want 2 Pelfrey/Humber/??? starts, in HR heavens Colorado and Houston, or 2 Maine starts?

I'll take Maine.

Why? Sosa pitches today and Perez tomorrow, right? Then on Monday it's Glavine, followed by ? and El Duque. The first three games in Houston would be Maine, Sosa, and Perez. That leaves Glavine as the starter on Sunday.

For what it's worth, I agree with 15 Day. Start Sele and forget all the roster juggling bullsh*t.

I'm sorry but you don't throw your ace on 3 days rest in July with a comfortable lead, in September in a close race? Sure heck in the playoffs you're more than willing to do that, but not in a game that means little in July.

Any word on when Dave Williams is ready to pitch again?

He pitched Thursday night, 6 1/3 innings, two runs, I believe.

So his regular turn comes up Tuesday.

I believe I read in the Daily Snooze today that the Mets don't feel Williams is ready to be called up yet, so it will be likely be Pelfrey.

You're right--it would be Glavine on Sunday. And I also agree with starting Sele instead of bringing someone up/sending someone down.

I'd still prefer Maine, though. And it'll be interesting to see if those here who are on the "must win now" bandwagon shift to the "it's a meaningless game in July" crowd.
