As fate would have it, the game's being delayed by rain before the start.

I feel bad for him actually.

His great spring had him primed and ready for the MLB season...No doubt he would have been the first call up, and would still be in the lineup..

You know what though? Gomez is improving nicely every day and has shown the outright maturity that suggests he'll learn so much more. He's already shown vast superiority in the field and the basepaths, so maybe it's all for the best?

Gotta agree. To be clear, I meant no slight to Gomez, who has gotten better and better as he plays. Gomez has made the most of the opportunity. The experience he is gaining is invaluable, much like the experience Maine and Perez got last October.

Oh I knew you weren't having a dig at Gomez, just looking at things from Milledges perspective. I have a feeling Mets pitchers also MUCH prefer having Gomez up.

Gomez went through similiar trials in the field and at bat that Milledge did last year, just that he didn't paint the big fat red bullseye on his back with his attitude that Milledge did. I think given time Milledge could redeem himself up here.

I think however, he seems to have gotten over them faster. Defensively, he's not had anywhere near the misadventures - and his speed has let him mostly overcome the ones he has. I just think he's more open to advice which has allowed him to adjust so much faster. I'm not saying Milledge is doomed, or has any less a future - just that I think Gomez's mental attitude (and greater defensive skills and speed) give him a greater chance of "making it".

There's no doubt he got over them faster and his attitude had a lot to do with that. I really do think Milledge has matured though (or hope he has) and can overcome his struggles as well. Although I don't think he has the raw tools to recover as fast in the outfield as Gomez.
