| Is anyone (outside of a LOOGY, but good luck ridding the team of Shlongenweasel the Character) out there better than anyone that the team already has? Unless the Real Zambrano (and with his and the Cubs' resurgence, unlikely despite what my contact may have stated) or Dontrelle Willis (suddenly a huge quesition mark himself) become available does anyone else think that they need to stand pat on the pitching front?

| I agree that we're fine with starting pitching. I think we'll need a far more dependable 8th inning guy and a LH slugger in the lineup to go anywhere int he playoffs. We could probably do without the slugger, but the setupman is a must. |

No way in hell. His contract isn't much more expensive than Ted Lilly and Gil Meche. 5 years $73 million? BARGAIN in today's game and would begin a bidding war such as MLB has never seen.

| My POINT, my rosy glassed friend, is that there is NO. WAY. IN. HELL. that the Astros would consider trading his ass. Or any other major part of him.

| The Mets have gotten oustanding pitching (for the most part) this season, and Pedro could be a huge boost. I would NOT want to part with top prospects for Zambrano or Willis. Oswalt is worth it, but it's so doubtful that A) he'll be traded at all or B) the Mets could match the best offer from the rest of MLB, that it is barely worth discussing. |

| I've said for a long time that only an "ace", especially one who has proven himself in the NL (yes, it's the "easier" league, but to me it's important that he's shown what he can do vs the hitters he's going to face), is worth trading for. Take a look at Zito, whom I'm very glad we didn't get, as an example. Our current 5 is doing fine, and with Pedro, Pelfrey, Humber and Guerra on the horizon, the SP situation "ain't broke, so don't fix it", unless it's for a MAJOR upgrade (Oswalt/Zambrano/Peavy) which probably isn't available anyway.

| The deadline should be interesting... especially to see which impact player gets in the car wreck right before the clock ticks midnight THIS year.
