| Wonder who had trouble "grinding it out" during the recent 4-14 stretch. Quote:

I think he's starting to get fed up with certain players.

| More importantly, which players scuffled and which didn't?

| This is definitely about Beltran. "Grind it out" is key there. Glavine just sucked. Not like he was trying to hide in the dugout. The whole thing with Beltran not coming to him to talk about how he'd be "better off on the DL" and saying it to the press was probably a MAJOR craw-sticker for Willie. I'll bet he doesn't forget that any time soon.

I'm sure his pride was none to happy when Randolph was surprised about Beltran's "injury"

| Beltran needs to be careful, as the "soft" label doesn't go away easily. I know he scored major points after the Cameron collision when he came back to play rather than opt for surgery on his face.... but let's face it, he's been using leg "issues" as an excuse for bad hitting almost since the git-go. I'll bet he's thankful he's not sucking as bad as Delgado is. Otherwise, he'd be hearing pre-collision 2005 boos out there again. Delgado will be bathing in those real soon if he doesn't start waking up.

| I'm pretty sure I read that he admitted that a DL stint would be the only way it would get "100% better," (or something like that) but that he needed to play because of the other outfielder injuries.

| yeah, sounds like beltran to me. hopefully he got the necessary attitude adjustment. Quote:
these hitters just need to relax and hit their pitch; their approaches are all either messed up or backwards. last night it seemed all the mets looked at that one pitch you get to hit during an AB in the name of what they think is patience against a pitcher they haven't faced. How many mets went down 0-2 after looking at straight-ass fastballs down the pipe last night? And they all knew it, and they'd try to compensate by swinging at utter **** right afterwards, or swinging at garbage on the first pitch the next AB and popping it up. Give credit to Wellemeyer or whatever his name was; in the right spots he'd throw crappy fastballs for strikes early in the count because he knew the Mets would all take pitches to see how he threw, then threw all sorts of junk they swung at because it got late early.

| http://www.nypost.com/seven/06172007...n_costello.htm Beltran admitted his left quad is still bothering him but stressed he did not want to blame his struggles on that. He does not sound hopeful, though, that the leg will feel better any time soon. "The only way it's going to get better is me taking some time off," Beltran said. "I have told the trainers and they have told me that this is something that has no sign of getting worse. It's something I have to play through." I swear, in one of the papers that week, one of the reporters had asked Carlos straight out if some time on the DL would help it get back to 100%, and he said "probably." I can't find it now, but I'm sure it was stuff like this that really ticked Willie off....talking about his little aches and pains to guys like John Harper rather than his manager.
