| The Mets definitely need one at this point, but my question is about who calls it? My first thought was Lo Duca, but with the make-up of this team, I also think Julio Franco or Glavine could do it. I'd love to see Reyes or Wright do it, but I think they're too young.... I'd also love to see Beltran do it, but he's definitely not the leader-type. What do you guys think? |

| Really? From what Willie has shown over the past few seasons, he seems to be out of the Joe Torre "let things play out" mold, where he won't get worked up. I'd love to see a little fire in a press conference, but I don't think its going to happen. It has to come from the players, at this point. |

| Senior Member | Well Wagner is calling the team out: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/recap?...eo&hcmp=motion "Not right now. We should be very happy being where we're at," said Mets closer Billy Wagner, who gave up a two-run homer to James Loney in the eighth. "I'm sure Omar (Minaya) didn't put this team together expecting this type of play, and Fred Wilpon didn't shell out this type of money for us to go out there and play like this. "We've caused a lot of our own problems. I mean, they played outstanding baseball, but we made them look better with our sloppy play and our lackadaisical efforts," Wagner added. "I don't think it's got anything to do with confidence. It's just about focus and desire. I mean, you've got to want it more than everybody else wants it." |

Too bad none of Wagner's teamates save for Wright will understand what the hell he is saying. Maybe they will need to get it translated.

| My problem isn't necessarily that they are slumping, since all teams (even very good ones) do it from time to time. My problem is that not a single person on the team has stepped up to help snap the team out of it. It would be nice to see a Delcrappo or Blowtran have a 4-5 night with 2 HRs to get this team pumped up. But they are DEAD in the water right now and I have little confidence that someone is going to take the team on their backs and carry them through this horrendous stretch. They have several players who could do it, but none have showed up yet.

Theres no finger pointing, total team effort here. This all started with a lot of bad luck, which is now being compounded by everything Wagner was talking about. They look like CRAP out there defensively, they are not making good pitch selections, they are hitting their way out of innings in under 9 pitches consistently. Basically I have to laugh at most of the crap that is happening, it is that unbelievable.

| You can criticize Wright when he is not living up to the hype - when he does, then you better give him the praise he deserves. Right now, he is the only guy on the field showing any sign of life.
