Default NL vs AL

I was just looked through the results of Inter-league play... the NL is only 33-51 (a pathetic .393 winning percentage) versus AL opponents this year so far. Only Florida (4-2) and the Cubs (2-1) have records above .500 versus AL teams. The Mets are among a very few teams who have played .500 ball so far (3-3). Not that anyone doubted it based on recent World Series, All-Star Games, etc., but it is even more conclusive proof that the AL is the stronger league right now.

All that matters are the last seven games. And in the case of 2006, the last five. A mediocre NL team beat the tar out of the AL's hottest team. So the records prior to the World Series, as usual, means next to nothing.

don't know why people are obsessed with league dominance (not necessarily you)... the only thing that matters is which team is holding the trophy at the end of october (or the beginning of november). last year overall league dominance ended up meaning bupkus.

That .393 might be an improvement over last year.

Yup, the 2006 World Series really did indicate the AL to be the better league...

The AL has won 10 of the last 15 World Series championships dating back to 1991. The AL has won 15 of the last 19 All Star Games (3 NL wins, 1 tie), including winning every All-Star Game 1997-2006 except the tied game.

How does the Cardinals beating a nervous/error prone (choking) tigers team take away the fact that the AL is more dominant? How many first place teams would be first in the Al east or central?

Yeah...

Sometimes, things happen. Were the 88 Dogers *better* than the 88 Mets? No.
But it happens.

I think it has something to do with how AL teams are stacked with offense due to the DH. When they play NL, their pitchers have to hit, but they also have a tremendous bench strength advantage due to the DH.

The All-Star game has not been a measure of anything since the mid 1980s.

As for the World Series, in recent history it is 3-3, post strike it is 7-5. I don't think the gap is as wide as two seasons of interleague play show.

The National League overall seemed a more competitive balanced league for 1996 to 2000, that did little good for the team facing the Yankees 4 of those 5 years.

Cardinals.
