Default The Dangerous Book for Boys

The Dangerous Book for Boys, US edition

Evidently this was a best seller over in the Queen's locale last year (Led, confirmation?) and has now made it's way here in a version for the U.S.

How nice is it to see something deliberately telling all the PC police to go shove it when it comes to raising a son? This thing has a chapter called "Timers and Tripwires" for God's sakes...how could you not love it? I have already ordered my copy for The Boy for Xmas. You know it's gotta be ok when the chapter on "How to make a Go Cart" is 4 pages long and the chapter on "Girls" is only 2 pages.

The systematic pussification of the American boy by the PC culture is my major pet peeve in life. I remember sitting down in 9th grade algebra and having my teacher ask to borrow my pocket knife for something, and when I told him I'd forgotten it that day, he reamed me for not having it. I remember getting into fights on the playground in elementary school, and having the principal haul us into his office and making us shake hands afterwards. Now you'd be looking at two 3rd graders sitting through anger management counseling sessions.

The best thing that could happen, and I'm sure what the authors are hoping for, is that guys all over the country buy this thing for themselves, read it and get all nostalgic, and tell their sons "Let's go out and build a treehouse."

(edited for grammar)

They're good cooked over an open fire, if you use enough bacon on top...bacon is the key to cooking everything.

A school around here banned kickball so the gym teacher brought a bag of cotton balls to school and told the principal he was going to have the kids sit in a circle and play catch with cotton balls for the rest of the year.

I personally hate that they got rid of the American Gladiator like jousting sticks.

And you can't use the term "cotton picking" anymore.

Why the **** don't parents stand up for this ****? If I had a kid and I found out they were playing with cotton balls (Is this ****ing for real? Seriously!?!?) I'd go ****ing nuts!

What a dickless country this is becoming. In 2107, there might not BE an America. Who would fight for it? Kids who grow up 2 generations away from this upcoming softy group being raised by pussy liberals? Will we even have men in this country or will they be genetically altered to have nice here, be metrosexual and tolerant to people who want to cut our heads off?

Oh, we are ****ed man. Absolutely.

Unfortunately I can't argue with any of your points.

He was making a point to the principal, he didn't actually give the kids cotton - he threw a bag of cotton balls at the principal and made a sarcastic comment in response to being banned from letting the kids play kickball. Could you really not get that point? It's not like it was couched in mixed metaphors.

Alice - is your sig a reference to the drunk woman doing a powerpoint presentation on Mad TV??

That was an AWESOME skit.

Yes, it is. That came on in reruns late at night over the summer while I was writing my dissertation hoping to get it done before the semester started and I had to go back to work. It's a funny sketch, but after three all nighters it's so funny it hurts. I didn't finish, so that's been the last chapter of the dissertation for 10 weeks now.

My favorite part is where she has the tiny picture and gets everyone to lean forward and the next picture is a blow up of her jumping at the camera.

I bought that book for my 13 year old son and he loves it!!! He comes to me all the time with questions and asks if I will help him make stuff. When we were kids a soapbox derby wasn't unusual now my son thinks how cool that is. His friends never heard of anything like that.

Run out and but the book, even if you don't have kids. You will be amazed at it!!
