Default So, I'm in the heart of New England...

...over the weekend and I stop at Best Buy. I decide to browse the DVD's looking for 2001, a disc I've always meant to pick up. Can't find it. Their DVD selection seems to be getting crappier. I walk over to one of the sales associates to see if it's in the store. They point me to the movie/DVD expert - another guy in blue. I walk over to him. He's 30ish.

Me: "Hey... I'm looking for 2001."
Guy in Blue: "Two thousand and whuh?"
Me: "2001. It's a movie."
Guy in Blue: "2001."

Another customer turns around to help out and goes, "Yeah... a space odyssey".

Me: "Yeah. A Space Odyssey. It's by Stanley Kubrick."
Guy in Blue: "Stanley Cooper?"
Me: "Stanley...uh...nevermind. Ummm...it's Science Fiction."
Guy in Blue: "Let's go check Science Fiction."

Needless to say, the guy was a gigantic boner. It ain't in the store. I move on.

About five minutes later, I'm in another section, and I hear another guy (in a Yankee hat, mind you) walk up to him and ask him a question. I didn't hear the question, but I distinctly hear the Guy in Blue say... "Dude... I don't know the answer, but I'm gonna try and help you out. But only because you're a fellow Yankee fan. You think they're gonna win tonight?"

And that's when it all comes together. Even outside of New York, Yankee fans are the biggest f*cking morons on the planet.

2001 was not a good year for the Yankees.

I never ask for help in either Best Buy or Gander Mountain (a fishing/hunting megastore type deal). If they have something I want on sale, I'll walk in, buy it, and walk out with the minimum amount of communication possible.

More and more I find myself staying away from any kind of "megabox store" and searching out smaller alternatives, paying a bit more and getting 800 times better customer service.

I refuse to talk to anyone at Best Buys, and will only buy stuff like video games and DVDs there. I had such a bad experience from trying to buy a computer a few years back. I'll leave out the details, but I had to get management involved because the saleskid was such an arrogant a**hole.

Computers are the worst thing to shop for in any large chain store. If you go in knowing exactly what you want they still try to either upsell (which is their job) or tell you that it's the wrong computer for what you want to do with it.

Also with the advent of the 'Geek Squad' type of service, everyone there knows everything about computers. Nevermind the fact that they charge outlandish prices for basic computer tasks.

Yup - exactly my experience

I've ordered my last two computers on line, and for much cheaper.

I went to buy a laptop for my wife and the guy asked what she was going to do with it. I mentioned that she was going to play games on it (never said how OLD the games were) and I was immediately answered with "Laptops aren't good for games".

I walked out.
