Default Moving to NYC

Hey MOFOers...

I just got a job (down in Tribeca) and I'm looking in Brooklyn or Queens to find a place to live... For rent, I could probably go as high as 1500/mo.

I'm also open to other areas, so long as they're well-connected on mass transit. So lay it on me, New Yorkers: Where should I be looking?

I have modern, spacey two-bedroom apartment in Pelham Bay (Bronx) and I pay $1100 (that includes heat). The rent is comparable to Brooklyn. I think you're ok in any of the boroughs if you want to keep it under $1500. Good luck!

Forest Hills, Queens...

$1500 should get you a fairly large 1 bedroom apartment.

Nice, safe neighborhood.

Some great restaurants and bars.

Twenty minutes or so via subway to midtown (double that to Tribeca, though).

Ten minutes by car to Shea Stadium.

Walking distance to a couple of large parks (Forest Park and Flushing Meadows).

Easy access to upstate, New England and Long Island.

Halfway between JFK and La Guardia.

Prospect Heights or Park Slope (near grand army plaza)

Kick ass nightlife and a ton of space and near the trains. Seriously consider it.
That's where I want to go.

Bayside, Queens. 20 min LIRR ride into Penn and cheaper then Brooklyn Heights or Manhattan. Lots of great restaurants, bars and parks. Perfect.

McGimpy sometimes lets out a cry or hissing sound.

During the rare times the McGimpy goes down to the ground (such as to change trees for food), it moves very slowly.

Hoboken, NJ. Extremely convienent, Path train to downtown, plenty of hip bars/restaurants. Crazy-Manhattan expensive and no space but the multiethnicity will do wonders for your street-cred.
