please stop! I'm no fan of the job the president has done, but the auto bailout is one of his few accomplishments. It was the only way the industry would have survived. Imagine how you cons would have reacted had he let them go bankrupt and China came in and bought GM and / or Chrysler?.....hate him all you want, but he did the right thing.

False choice. I would have preferred that the bondholders ("rich people") and the non-union labor (who got ****ed in the deal) receive the same treatment as the union labor.

bond holders get f-ed either way.......the "non-union labor" still have jobs. Sure, the unions got a good deal, but a post bankrupt entity would have had to "deal" with the UAW anyway.

They would have been able to tear up the old contracts and make new ones that are favorable to an actual future in US auto manufacturing. The benefits, pensions and unfunded liabilities built into union labor contracts make our system less competitive than...... Well... Any other country that makes cars.

Same deal. Future = past, only more quickly.

assuming that the unions would have bent over for the new owners, which is unlikely. I won't argue that I would have liked to see more union concessions in the bailout, in exchange for their ownership stake.

The unions wouldn't have had a choice but TO bend over for new owners.
