Palin to Resign as Governor of Alaska


Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska announced Thursday that she would step down by the end of the month and not seek a second term as governor, allowing her to seek the Republican nomination for president in 2012.

Ms. Palin, who was Senator John McCain’s vice presidential running mate in last year’s election and rallied the party’s conservative base, explained her decision at a news conference at her home in Wasilla, accompanied by her husband, Todd, and other family members.

“We know we can effect positive change outside of government,” she said in making the announcement.

Ms. Palin, who was known as Sarah Barricuda when she played basketball in high school, used point guard analogy, saying she knows “exactly when to pass the ball so the team can win.”

She said that she planned to hand over the reins of the state government to Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell, who would be sworn in at the governor’s picnic in Fairbanks on July 25.

There had been wide speculation that she would seek to be the Republican Party’s presidential candidate in 2012. Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota, who is also considered to be a Republican candidate for president in 2012, recently announced that he would not seek re-election.

By leaving office early, Ms. Palin will be able to travel around the country more freely and not have to deal with the constraints of being a governor.

Heck, one spread in Playboy and she and Todd will never have to worry about working ever again.

All kidding aside, she is giving up the best job she'll ever have. She's either planning on doing something outside of politics, or she has higher political aspirations.

If the latter is the case, she should give it up. She has no shot at the GOP nomination nor does she have a prayer of winning the White House should she be the nominee.

While I am sure there are some folks dumb enough to think she has substance, that number ain't nowhere near 50 million or whatever a majority of the vote will be by then.

She's a classic know nothing. I'd still do her but that's not saying much.

I trust her more than the racist piece of crap that we've currently got bringing down the property values of the neighborhood homes surrounding 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

She should easily win Alaskan Senate seat when its up if she wants it though. I think she should stay away from 2012 presidential though. I don't see her as the anti-obama that is needed to win. She better be hitting the books and working things out so she doesn't look so blindsided this time around if she does step out there...

Pardon me if I think that Cheney's Patriot Act, used to hunt down muslimes, kiddie porn purveyors and top-of-the-food-chain crack dealers was a little less infringing than B. Hussein O.'s and Dykeolitano's list of suspected domestic terrorists.

Where's the outrage NOW???

The FBI uses the Patriot Act to slam away a kiddie porn ring and the lefties are outraged at the "slippery slope" of the application while Dykeolitano uses her homeland security "list" to catalog every pro-lifer from sea to ****ing shining sea.

anything that helps put away kiddie porn rings is good.....any law that is twisted to be used for other "reasons" than that for which it was intended is bad
