Default Handicapping the Presidential pardons

The front runners would appear to be Scooter Libby and the two Border Patrol agents, Jose Alonso Compean and Ignacio Ramos.

Any other guesses? Senator Larry Craig?

It's traditional to have a flurry of them occur on the very last day.

Yes because Clinton's pardons were a veritable pantheon of the virtuous.

Who said they were, Frank? I'm just talking about the various pardons that slip in under the wire. I'm curious who people think will get pardons from THIS president.

Like any other President, all his buddies will probably go free. It is shameful if that is the case.

I think that the last minute presidential pardon - for ANY president - is one of the grossest abuses of power in government today. These guys are trying to set themselves up as multimillionaires post-presidency and the opportunity to SELL freedom has got to be incredibly tempting.

"Hey, Mr. Rich, I'll let you come back in scot free if you donate a **** load of cash to my 'library'!"

"Hey, Cheney, tell you what - I'll pardon YOU, resign, then YOU get to be President for a day and pardon ME. How's THAT sound??"

I wouldn't put it past them for that very scenario to play out. It's not like the history books are going to be charitable anyway.

Compean and Ramos should NOT be pardoned.

Be non-partisan for a minute - and remember that it was I who stated that slinging mud at Obama over buying off Bloggo would be horrible for the country... -

Admit it - it would be AWFUL if Cheney and Bush get prosecuted for war crimes or whatever they're being threatened with.

Well, despite the fact that a POS drug dealer( who was unarmed) got shot, these guys failed to report it and then lied about it. No place for guys like this in law enforcement.

They're already exempt from war crimes prosecution:

Bush-Cheney Escape War Crimes Prosecution | E Pluribus Unum

However, to answer the question, it would embolden the rest of the world's hatred of the USA if we declared the dynamic duo war criminals. Some might say it is the ultimate olive branch and manifestation of change, but I think America's enemies speak much more loudly than do their (former) friends. Consequently, I am in agreement that nothing good would come of that. Just close the book and hopefully start to improve things without calling any more attention to this chapter of American history.

The incident happened right here in El Paso County. It's an amazingly hot topic of debate. I work literally walking distance (5 minutes on a bad day) from the Mexican border. People here are very concerned about the influx of drugs as well as illegal aliens. Juxtapose that with the people who feel the abuse of power supercedes the crimes of the victim.

I'm with Denny on this one. You can't set an example as a moral society if you condone vigilante justice. Had it been the other way around, everyone would have just viewed it as some third world cowboys taking out a criminal and everyone would be up in arms about it. Why shouldn't we be as outraged when a supposedly more sophisticated society with more integrity in its law enforcement agencies behave the same way?

1.) You just described the law of the land in 95% of the world's countries.

b.) If it happened in Mexico to Americans you would have NEVER heard about it.

*.) If it happened in Iran to Americans there would be parades in the streets honoring the "vigilantes".

..) American citizens should get 2 illegal alien tags annually, just like hunters get 2 deer tags.

The same people that hated us on 9/10/01? Or 1944? or 1776?
C'mon...

So you're on record saying we should prosecute Bush and Cheney as war criminals? You can't have it both ways.
